Weapon (longsword), artifact (requires attunement)

This blade of dark metal is filled with distinctive patterns of banding and mottling reminiscent of flowing water, or flames. The blade and crossguard are emblazoned with runes of ancient abyssal, and the mark of an unknown house. Once it was wielded by the great generals of Iyachtu Xvim, often referred to by their common title: Rift Rippers.

Dormant

The sword grants the following benefits in its dormant state:

  • You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
  • While holding the sword, you can use a free action to speak its command word to draw upon the powers of the blade. If you do so, your next melee attack can be made against any target within 15ft, as the blade carves a rift through the air to connect with the target. You gain advantage on this attack, as the target cannot prepare for such a strike. Once this property of the blade has been used, it can't be used again until after your next short or long rest.
  • You can spend 8 hours inscribing abyssal runes on the blade in a ritual that allows you to store spells in the blade's surface. The blade can hold up to 4 levels of spells. Spells inscribed on the blade in this manner are always prepared for you and do not count against the number of spells you can normally prepare.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.

Notes: Bonus: Magic, Language: Infernal, Damage: Fire, Versatile, Sap
