This small purpleheart box, lined in a copper metal frame, was created by the famous artificer P. Laroid. On the back of the object is a small viewport, which opens to a lens on the front of the device, much like a telescope. As an inventor of many wonderous machinations, P. Laroid sought to capture the world in all it's purest forms. This object was their most prized possession. Capable of capturing an image and producing it's likeness on glossy parchment, and procuring it through a small horizontal slit on the front of the box. Sadly, this artifice never reached full scale production, due to how "hard to work with" the device was.
"The images it produces are immaculate, but covered in graffiti that is VERY rude! The device said the image of my cat was 'atrocious' and had the 'artistic vision of a walnut'!"
- A disgruntled patron.
"Apparently P. Laroid doesn't appreciate photos of my ancestral house plant. '0/10. Absolute Dog Water' he called it!"
-Another disgruntled patron.
On the top left side of the device, you will find a single button. Using an action, you can look through the lens on the back plate, and push this button, causing the white gemstone on the front to flash with brilliant light, which will consume one of the items charges. Roll 1d6.
Any creatures in a 15ft cone facing away from the device, must make a CON saving throw, DC14. On a failed save, the creature is blinded for a number of rounds equal to the number rolled on the d6. On a successful save, the target makes its next attack with disadvantage, due to the dazzling nature of the light. A blinded creature can make the constitution save again at the end of each of its turns, ending it on a success.
After the device is used this way, a small photograph will appear from the slit on the front of the device in a number of minutes equal to the number you rolled on the d6. This photograph begins black, with a white border, and slowly reveals an image of the scene you saw through the lens. Each creature in the photo that failed their save has glowing red eyes, and those who succeeded have their eyes closed. If a target is from another plane of existence other than the material plane, its figure is smudged and blurry in the photo.
In addition, written below each creature in the photo there is a number representing its AC at the time of the exposure, along with a stinging quip about their pose, and the quality of the image. For example, someone with their eyes crossed, and shirt unkempt may read "2/15. Inelegant twit."
This item is found with 3 charges. When all charges are expended, the user must make a performance check, DC15, to convince the device that they are worthy to take more photographs. In 1 minute, a photograph comes out of the device, ranking your photograph on a scale of 15. On a successful check the item regains 2d4 charges.
