Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement by a One hour's meditation)

A unique enchanted tool the like of which many artificers have sought to replicate, the Tinker's Companion is the culmination of the life's work of legendary artificer Sviss A’mi. Though famous for creating many intricate and complex devices, this deceptively simple little tool was the vital element in all of those projects. Resembling a red-hued wooden handle, approximately three inches long, and carved from magically attuned bloodwood, at first glance it appears to be missing any usable tool bit.

Once attuned however, the wielder can summon forth just about any tool they can imagine, which manifests out of the end of the handle- the only caveat being that no tool can be more than three inches in length itself. In an emergency, or when you need to open a package, it can even manifest a knife, which uses proficiency bonus to hit, and does 1d4 damage.

A'mi only ever made one such device, and among the artificer and thieving communities it has become legendary for its versatility and ease of concealment. The subtle layers of incredibly intricate enchantment that went into such a device would likely also fascinate any student of magic- though learning its secrets would likely result in the destruction of the original.

The Companion almost seems to have a mind of its own, sometimes manifesting a tool that is more appropriate for the situation instead of what was requested of it, or refusing to manifest tools for anyone who blames their own poor handiwork on it. It can be used up to three times before it needs to regain it's charges, though it's possible that finding a way to achieve a higher level of attunement with it might bypass that restriction entirely.
