Zoritxarra is a sentient artifact, possessed by the spirit of the elvish warrior Aicamacil, the wraith of Elendilain an elvish mother lost to the Sundering, the rage of Kasag the Hill Giant, and the loving heart and iron will of Fech Tunnely. It constantly shifts between four different forms, each of which with their own name and abilities. These forms can be switched between by contesting the wielder's will against the competing wills that exist within the artifact. Otherwise, the cycle of the moons determines which form the item takes. The four moons of Jaerdreva, Chandra, Selune, Mayari, and Eilistraeae each resonate with this item. When the corresponding moon is full, the item takes that form, with the higher order item form taking precedence over the rest (i.e Zoritxarra is the 4th order, and is the highest form of the item). The chart below describes each form the item can take, and each form has its own statistics to describe it in more depth.
When the item is drawn or readied, an attuned wielder can give up half their movement to enter into a test of wills with the item. To succeed in this, the wielder must roll a contest ability check against the current form the item is in. The wielder makes a Charisma check, and the DM makes an opposed check using one of the mental stats for the form, at the DM's discretion. If the wielder wins the contest, they select the new form. If their alignment is the same as the form they select, the item automatically assumes the new form. Otherwise, the wielder selects either Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma, and makes an ability check using that skill. The DM makes a contested ability check for the new item form, with the ability selection at the DM's discretion. If the wielder wins this contest, the item assumes the selected form. If the item wins the contest, the item can either choose to still assume the new form but has control over the wielder, can refuse to transform and the item remains in its current form, or assume the new form with a negative consequence occurring at a later time, at the DM's discretion.
Alternatively, the wielder can attempt to talk to an embodiment of the item and form a bond with it, and at the DM's discretion avoid the contest of wills if the various entities within the items are kept sufficiently happy with the wielder. Because of their different alignments, this kind of balance will be impossible to maintain between all four forms, but the wielder could find ways to get different forms to "agree" with each other.
Additionally, the forms can attempt to take control of the item. If they choose to do this, they make a contested Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma ability check against the current form, and then against the wielder (using the same stat for all of these contests for all participants). The wielder will have to attempt another form change if the item is successful in "hi-jacking" itself.
