If you can attune to this item, you can use it as a spellcasting focus. In addition, while holding the tome, you can use a bonus action to spend any number of hit dice to recover spell slots equal to half the number of expended hit dice (rounded down). For example, spending four hit dice allows you to one 2nd level spell slot or two 1st level spell slots.

If you die while attuned to this item, your soul is sucked into the book and your name is added to the list of names within the book.
