Wondrous Item, varies

A token of animal companionship is a simple, typically flat representation of a beast no larger than a copper piece. It holds the spirit of the animal it represents.

Once attuned your token's spirit understands all languages you speak and shares a telepathic bond with you allowing it to communicate that way with you up to a range of 30 feet.

You can use an action speak the name of the token's type or the name of the creature to release the spirit, transforming the token it into a living creature in the nearest unoccupied space. Some tokens can take on more than one form, the token can transform into either form. If the space where the creature would appear is occupied by other creatures or objects, or if there isn’t enough space for the creature, the token doesn’t become a creature. You can use an action to command the creature to return to its token form. When in combat the token acts on the same turn as you.

The spirit can remain in its creature form indefinitely but will return to its token form once its hitpoints drop to 0, or if it decides to return to its token form. If the creature’s hitpoints are reduced to 0 its telepathic link to you is silenced and cannot transform into its creature form for two days.

Once per dawn when in its creature form, the spirit can enlarge itself in size. When enlarged in size this growth increases its size by one category-- from Medium to Large, for example. If there isn't enough room for the target to double its size, the creature enlarges to the maximum size that the space will allow. While in its enlarged form, the creature has advantage on all Strength checks and Strength saving throws and deals an extra 1d4 damage on all melee attack attacks. This transformation lasts for one hour or until the creature uses an action to return to its regular size.

Each token has an AC of 20 and 10 hitpoints, if damaged the token regains 1d6 hitpoints per dawn or all of them if the spirit remains in that form for a whole day. The hitpoints of the spirit's token form and creature form are independent of each other. Once destroyed, the spirit is lost.
