Armor (studded leather), rare
While wearing this armor, you gain a +1 bonus to Armor Class. You can also take a Bonus Action to cause the armor to assume the appearance of a normal set of clothing or some other kind of armor. You decide what it looks like—including color, style, and accessories—but the armor retains its normal bulk and weight. The illusory appearance lasts until you use this property again or doff the armor.
Made from tough but flexible leather, studded leather is reinforced with close-set rivets or spikes.
Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, Utility, Combat, Deception, Warding
This is of course how you get the classically objectifying female hero's armor.
Looks like a "normal" set of skimpy leather beachwear, functions as full-coverage +1 studded leather.
since it says illusionary, if a character were to try and grab an accessory, would they be aware that it was an illusion?
Yes, because the shape and properties of the armor do not change physically. At least, that is what I interpreted with remaining the same bulk. It is like disguise self is cast on the armor. A build in disguise armor, so to say.
I don't think there is any actual rule saying druids cannot use metal armor.
It's in their proficiencies, they still can wear metal, but it's not a thing that druids normally do
Armor: Light armor, medium armor, shields (druids will not wear armor or use shields made of metal)
Get this on a Changeling Thief Rogue, and then I can master the talent of Quick Change. A classic trick used by spies around the world, as an added bonus in 6 seconds you can go from "An Elderly Earth Genasi, with a Tuxedo" to a "Young Human woman in a ragged dress" pair that with expertise in Deception, oh boy
Is it reasonable to interpret "You decide what it looks like, including color, style, and accessories" to mean the outward appearance can be anything from, say, a bikini to a full set of ermine-trimmed coronation robes with crown, orb, and scepter, while "the armor retains its normal bulk and weight" refers to how it feels to the wearer or someone physically inspecting it? (Of course, final interpretation will be at the discretion of my DM, but I wanted to at least make sure my understanding wasn't unreasonable.)
"assume the appearance of a normal set of clothing or some other kind of armor", so you may be able to argue for a crown, but orb & scepter are not clothing or some kind of armor.
I wanna point out it says Druids will not wear metal, not cannot.
I will not wear Adidas but it doesn't mean if I put'em on and tie them up, I'll explode. They're proficient in all light/medium armors, they just hate wearing metal and won't if they can help it.
lol by that logic druids couldn't wear any armour cause trust me there would be some metal somewhere
Dndb doesn't always calculate correctly, like the AC bonus from dual wielder, two weapons equipped still doesn't boost your AC.
My dm made a cracked out dnd campaign where we 5 could have 3 classes. My fairy dhampir aberrant mind sorcerer pact of the archfey warlock glamour bard picked this as his starting making item with the actor feat so when I got sculptor of flesh I could basically be who ever I wanted. My character decides every decision with a coin flip. This was a role play and self nerf thing I did since I could best my whole party without a care in the world. For example I flip a coin to see if I participate in combat or not. I also flip a coin to see if I revive my teammates or not and just keep them company as they bleed out. I had a talk with them before hand basically they just won't rely on me. My character has o moral he only wants to gamble and eat the far realm since he spent a year there by persuading it. He also has the ability to eat a whole persons being. I even have some art being made for him right now. He terrorise s mind Flayers colonies. He even made an elder brain named brian get for death. This campaign was postponed for a long time so I have some UA that isn't UA anymore like Green Lord's gift and so on.
I'm working on a Changeling Soulknife. Be anyone and get expertise in Performance and Deception. I would just hope my DM would allow the armor to be a family heirloom! As if, but one could hope 😇
Do you two also have a Changeling Lore Bard?
I had the same idea for my pc, along with the Cloak of Many Fashions
So... Did he?
I'm the current DM for my group,(my first campaign) I'm just giving it to a changeling warlock, that's just starting to play and never has before, cuz it just makes sense they would hunt for some sort of item like this. its 13+ for ac, so barely better than normal studded armor, which makes sense given that its enchanted, regardless of enchantment; and it fits the motif of the changeling. saves me the trouble of stuffing their inventory with a bunch of clothing for ALL species and genders. a disguise kit would only go so far, and not gonna lie, is kind of boring. I'm here to tell an awesome story with the help of my friends. That's what this is about, and cool items like this help so much. Am I afraid that she will use it to gain advantage to any CHA based rolls? HELL YES, but who wouldn't do such things, and who wouldn't see it coming and plan for it. just gonna set the DC SUUUPER high in those scenarios. still doing it cuz above all, I want my player to have fun, and I DO want them to beat the BBEG. I'm the narrator, with god-like powers, but I have fun when they have fun. all the hard work I put into this campaign and story is worth it when I see them having fun.
