Weapon (greatsword), rare (requires attunement)

Blight. This blade has the ability to store damage as Blight. All damage stored in this way is cumulative and has no upper limit, but Blight only lasts until spent or until 4 hours after it is initially stored, at which point it is reduced to 0.

Rusting Strike (1 Charge). As a Bonus Action, you can spend 1 charge to activate Rusting Strike. Until the end of your next turn, your next successful attack with the cleaver deals an additional 2d4 necrotic damage which is also stored as Blight. If the target is wearing non-magical metal armor, its armor is partly rusted and takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to the AC it offers. The armor is destroyed if the penalty reduces its AC to 10.

Blighting Ceremony (1 Charge). Over the course of 1 minute, you can spend 1 charge to cast Blighting Ceremony. The blade is plunged into the ground and targets each creature that remains within a 20 foot radius for the entire casting time. Unwilling creatures can make a DC (8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your CON Modifier) Constitution Saving Throw to resist being targeted; a creature that is poisoned, diseased, or below half health has disadvantage on this save. All unconscious creatures are considered unwilling. Each successfully targeted creature must roll one-fourth of its hit-dice (rounded down, minimum of 1). The hit dice are considered spent, and the value rolled is dealt as necrotic damage to the creature and then stored as Blight.

Black Beam (2 Charges). As an Action, you can spend 2 charges to use Black Beam. The cleaver emits a beam that is a 30 foot line starting at the blade and ending at any point the wielder can see within range. The beam will not extend through walls. Each creature within the beam takes 3d10 necrotic damage plus all Blight currently stored in the cleaver, or half as much damage on a successful DC (8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your CON Modifier) Dexterity Saving Throw.

Profaned Form (4 Charges). As an Action, you can spend 4 charges to take on the Profaned Form. For the next minute or until you fall unconscious, your body takes on a horned, leathery, fungus-ridden appearance. While in this form, all of the damage you deal (from weapons, spells, or otherwise) is necrotic damage and is stored as Blight. Also while in this form, you gain immunity to poison and necrotic damage and vulnerability to radiant damage; for every round (or 6 seconds) that you spend in direct sunlight starting on the turn that you take on the form, you have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks and take 2d4 radiant damage.

Trial of the Damned. This blade has the ability to transform into a more powerful one upon completion of this trial. The following conditions must be met (in no particular order) while attuned to the user; if the cleaver is unattuned before transforming, all progress in the trial is lost.

  • Abolish a Demon Lord of CR 20 or greater to the Abyss with this blade, then slay that Demon Lord in the Abyss with this blade within 7 days.
  • Store 1,000 damage or more as Blight within the cleaver at one time.
  • Soak the blade in the blood of 20 humanoid sinners slain by this blade for 7 consecutive days. Upon completion, the blood will dry up and crumble into useless ash and dust.

Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
