This staff can be wielded as a magic quarterstaff that grants a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it. While holding it, you have a +2 bonus to spell attack rolls.
The staff has 10 charges for the following properties. It regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the staff loses its properties and becomes a nonmagical quarterstaff.
Spells
You can use an action to expend 1 or more of the staff's charges to cast one of the following spells from it, using your spell save DC:
- animal friendship (1 charge)
- awaken (5 charges)
- barkskin (2 charges)
- locate animals or plants (2 charges)
- speak with animals (1 charge)
- speak with plants (3 charges)
- wall of thorns (6 charges).
You can also use an action to cast the pass without trace spell from the staff without using any charges.
Tree Form. You can use an action to plant one end of the staff in fertile earth and expend 1 charge to transform the staff into a healthy tree. The tree is 60 feet tall and has a 5-foot-diameter trunk, and its branches at the top spread out in a 20-foot radius. The tree appears ordinary but radiates a faint aura of transmutation magic if targeted by detect magic. While touching the tree and using another action to speak its command word, you return the staff to its normal form. Any creature in the tree falls when it reverts to a staff.
Notes: Bonus: Spell Attacks, Bonus: Magic, Druid, Creation, Control, Communication, Detection, Warding
Do you still have to concentrate on spells cast through it?

This would be an automatic request if it was +2 to spell attack and spell save DC, but without spell save DC i'd say its more build dependent. My favourite Druid is a Stars druid with 1 lvl Genie and Crusher feat, so that means Moonbeam is almost always my go to, so need that spell save DC as high as possible. Too bad, gotta stick with rare moon sickle I guess.

Any advice on how to craft this item? Like could you use a quaterstaff, or would you need special wood? Do you need proficiency in Arcana? Etc. Thanks in advance!
Is this staff good for a 4th level changeling?
WHUT
An Army of Sentient Plants! Muahaha!
Time to get all LOTR on these foolish Orcs!
Furthermore, would the staff be able to cast spells in it’s tree form as if wielding itself?
Instant Gaurdian demi-god of nature
I read on a wiki that they allowed rangers to wield this staff also in Baldur's Gate II. Can anyone confirm this?
IMO rangers should be allowed to wield it at the full functionality but its ultimately up to DM discretion if a ranger can utilize the staff or not.
Unless I’m mistaken, since it doesn’t say so, I’m assuming it can’t be used as a Druidic focus, for the purposes of casting your own spells while holding the staff plus a shield without the War Caster feat?
A druid can use a Wooden Staff as a spellcasting focus, as described in the Spellcasting section. (Description of the druidic focus Wooden staff)
Given that this is a staff *can* be wielded as a quarterstaff, we can assume that this is not its primary function and since other staves like the staff of the magi use similar wording, it's pretty safe to assume that this magical wooden staff specifically made for druids that is not primarily a weapon and that can be used to cast some spells without using spell slots, is, in fact, a spellcasting focus.
