Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement)
While wearing this cloak, you can pull its hood over your head to cause yourself to become invisible. While you are invisible, anything you are carrying or wearing is invisible with you. You become visible when you cease wearing the hood. Pulling the hood up or down requires an action.
Deduct the time you are invisible, in increments of 1 minute, from the cloak's maximum duration of 2 hours. After 2 hours of use, the cloak ceases to function. For every uninterrupted period of 12 hours the cloak goes unused, it regains 1 hour of duration.
Notes: Invisible, Exploration, Deception, Warding
In the Tomb of Annihilation we get a look at the Jaculi, and in its description an interesting little tidbit pops up.
“Jaculis are found in damp climates, and their preferred habitats are rainforests and cool dungeons. The shed skin of the jaculi is coveted for use in crafting boots of striding and springing and cloak of invisibility.”
I found this pretty interesting and will probably use it as a way of crafting these items in my campaign, and I hope someone else will find it interesting as well!
Happy stealthing to you sneaky folks who use this!
For the purposes of a Dispel Magic spell, what level of spell is this cloak? The description of the cloak's invisibility sounds like Greater Invisibility(which is 4th level), because the invisibility doesn't end until the hood is lowered even if you attack. It is a legendary item though, so that would lead me to believe it would be considered a higher level than just the basic level 4 Greater Invisibility spell.
Dispel Magic doesn't work on magical items. For Dispel Magic to work, you need to have an appropriate spell level to dispel. As this item does not have a spell level, it cannot be affected by the Dispel Magic spell.
If you want to stop this item from causing invisibility, then you need an Antimagic Field, an 8th level spell, and even then it only stops it temporarily.
Ok, I was confused because the description of Dispel Magic states "Choose one creature, object, or magical effect within range." the item creates a magical effect, and therefore I thought Dispel Magic should be able to affect it. I guess it would only work if the person would cast a spell using the cloak, instead of the cloak just using an existing property.
Dispel magic only works on spells.
Casting dispel magic on a creature or object in this case, ends a spell affecting it (such as a sequestered object or a creature who cast invisibility on themselves).
Casting dispel magic on an effect (such as a wall of fire) ends the spell.
Edit: Think about it as a late counterspell.
I cannot locate this item in the equipment section of the character sheet. I own the book and everything it just isn't showing up. Does anyone have any idea why that is?
Does the cloak make your rear look big?
Gosh, I hope so!
Read the next sentence.
Emphasis mine. Objects can be targets, but it ends spells on the target. So if this cloak had like... the light spell on it, [spell[dispel magic[/spel] would get rid of it. But it doesn't destroy permanent enhantments. It is not that powerful.
It isn't a spell. Invisibility is the effect. Dispel Magic by RAW doesn't have any effect on it as it only cancels spells on the target.
