Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement)

The Tiangao, a monstrous beast said to steal the light from the moon during an eclipse. Its power grants it dominion over the night. One such beast, grew to great age and strength, until finally obtaining the vast power necessary to classify it as a kami. Upon this beast's defeat, it left behind this medallion, so that its obtained power could carry on within the one who defeated it, until such a time when it can rise anew. The medallion is composed of ebony and ivory with a silver lining, depicting a hound devouring the moon.

Eyes of the Night: While attuned, you gain Darkvision out to a range of 120 ft. Additionally you gain the ability to see through magical darkness and are unaffected by the Darkness and Maddening Darkness spells and gain immunity to Radiant Damage.

Tiangao Traits: Your body shifts and changes and you gain more hound like traits. You grow a tail, your ears disappear and are replaced with a set of pointed black furred, ears on your head. Your teeth sharpen and you gain the ability to make a bite attack with them. The bite is counted as a natural weapon and is considered magical for the proposes of overcoming resistances. On a hit the bit deals 1d8 piercing plus 1d8 radiant damage. You gain advantage on all perception checks made using smell and you gain advantage attacking creatures while one of your allies is within 5 feet of it and not incapacitated. Additionally, while in dim light or darkness, you gain a fly speed equal to your walking speed.

Eclipse Bringer: You gain the ability to manipulate the light around you and manipulate the darkness. While attuned you know the Darkness spell and may cast it at will. When you cast this spell with a slot higher than 2nd level, the radius increases by 5 feet for every slot level above 2nd. Additionally, you may use an action to create an eclipse. If used during the day, the area within 1 mile of you becomes as dark as night for 10 minutes as if by the Mirage Arcane spell. If used at night. The area within 1 mile of you falls under the effects of the Darkness spell for 10 minutes. once you have done this, you must complete a long rest before doing so again.

Black Hound: While attuned to the medallion, you may use an action to summon a Tiangou. The Tiangou gains the same benefits and abilities as if by the Find Familiar Spell. It has the statistics of a Direwolf with the following changes;

  • It gains a bonus to attack and damage rolls equal to your Spellcasting modifier and any saving throws it forces use your spell save DC.
  • It gains a fly speed equal to its walking speed at night.
  • It can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. The hound takes 5 force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.
  • Its creature type becomes Abberation
  • If seeing through its Eyes, you may also speak through the Tiangou.
  • You may cast any spell from the Tiangou's location as long as it is within 60 feet of you.

The Tiangou remains until its Hp reaches 0, after which you must complete a long rest before summoning it again. Additionally, as a bonus action while the Tiangou is summoned, you may turn your body into black mist and enter the Tiangou's body. While inside its body in this way you take control of it, you retain your mental stats, have total cover against attacks, and may conjure any items or materials on your person within 5 feet of the Tiangou and may exit it at any time as a bonus action.

Lunar Flame: As a bonus action, you may conjure a wreath of 4 floating orbs of black and white flames. These flames remain for 1 minute or until used. As a bonus action on subsequent turns, you may use a bonus action to attack with up to 2 of these orbs. You choose a target creature within 30 feet and throw the orb at the creature. It must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell DC. On a Failed save it takes 3d8 Radiant and 3d8 Necrotic Damage and is blinded for 1 minute. On a success, it takes 1/2 damage and is not blinded.

Tiangao Magic: While attuned to this artifact, the following spells are added to your list of spells known.  They are always prepared and do not count against the number of spells you can prepare. You may cast each of these spells without expending a spell slot or material components once after which you must complete a long rest before doing so again; Shadow Blade, Silvery Barbs, Summon Abberation, Shadow of Moil, Sunbeam

Random Properties:

  • 3 Minor Beneficial: While attuned, you gain a +1 bonus to your Armor Class; While attuned you may use an action to cast the Sapping Sting cantrip; While attuned, you may use an action to cast the Hunger of Hadar Spell without expending a spell slot or material components. After you have cast it in this way you must complete a long rest before doing so again.
  • 2 Major Beneficial: While attuned, your Intelligence score increases by 2 to a maximum of 24; While attuned you may use an action to cast the spell Tasha's Otherworldy Guise without expending a spell slot or material components. After you have cast it in this way you must complete a long rest before doing so again.
  • 4 Minor Detrimental: While attuned, you have disadvantage on saving throws against spells; While attuned, the first time you touch a gem or piece of jewelry, its value decreases by 1/2; While attuned, holy water is destroyed within 10 feet of you; While attuned, animals are hostile while within 30 feet of you.
  • 2 Major Detrimental: When you attune to this artifact you gain a form of Long term madness; Before you attune to this artifact you must kill a creature of your alignment.
