Wirebugs are tiny magebred monstrosities known for the great resilience of the fibers they weave and mysterious strength.  They are hunters that lie in wait in a sturdy lair, typically a petrified piece of wood, fruit rind, gourd, or blossom.  When prey such as other insects or tiny birds come near they bolt out at alarming speed trailing a tether of their unique wire up to 30 feet long.  Once the Wirebug has attached to a creature, their internal organs then reabsorb the tether with remarkable force and speed to drag both themselves and their prey back into the lair. When a Wirebug's lair is threatened by a larger creature it has been known to latch onto the beast and reel its lair toward the aggressor as a makeshift projectile.


As magebred creatures they can be trained to accept a limited number of commands which allow them to serve as a potent utility for adventurers.  Aspiring Wirebug breeders pay good coin for different lineages and most common folk recognize their value.

A single Wirebug is housed in a petrified fruit rind or flower which is then mounted on a belt or bracer.  The Wirebug can be commanded to exit the housing at highspeed which allows for the following uses:
- As a bonus action you direct the Wirebug to move to a point you can see within 30 feet where it holds its position and immediately drags you to its space.  
- As a bonus action you direct the Wirebug to latch onto a creature or object you can see within 30 feet and it immediately attempts to drag it to a space adjacent to you.
- As a reaction when you are falling you can direct the Wirebug to exit the housing and hold its position, supporting you until the end of your next turn.

Regardless of use the Wirebug can move or support a maximum of 1000 lbs and lighter objects move toward heavier or sufficiently anchored.  While in its housing a Wirebug has total cover and the reinforcement of the housing for the tether renders it nearly indestructible.  While outside the housing, the Wirebug has an AC of 20 and 1 hit point, the tether has an AC of 20, 10 hit points and resistance to all damage and immunity to psychic and poison damage.

A Wirebug Hive is a legendary item that can be used to create garments, supple as silk but as durable as steel.
