While holding this shield, you have a +1 bonus to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC.
When a Humanoid creature dies within 15ft of you while you carry this shield, their spirit is absorbed into the shield, and their name is then carved into the shield. A maximum of 10 names can be carved on the shield at a time. When the shield is found or bought, it will have 1d6+4 names on it.
When you take damage while holding the shield, you may use your reaction to call forth any number of names on the shield to reduce the damage taken by 1d10+1 damage per spirit. Alternatively, you can use the spell speak with dead on one of the names without needing the body. After using either of these effects, the name disappears and the spirit is gone.
Cursed: If you die while attuned to the shield and there are less than 10 names already on it, your soul becomes trapped in it and your name appears on it. This means that you cannot be resurrected in any way, unless the spell greater restoration is cast on the shield, sending all the spirits back to their bodies.
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, Humanoid, Combat, Warding, Cursed
