Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement by a player who defeated the guardian of this book.)

With covers made of skin and fittings of bone, this tome is cold to the touch, and it whispers faintly calling for its master or when in need of one worthy for its calling. When found, the book contains the following spells, which are wizard spells for you to use while you are attuned to the book: Animate Dead, Circle of Death, False Life, Finger of Death, Speak with Dead, Summon Undead, Vampiric Touch. It functions as a spellbook for the attuned. Spells in this spellbook do not use up spellslots, regardless of the spell's level, in other words anyone attuned to this tome can cast the spells written on it even though the user isn't a spellcaster nor has spellcasting slots.

The book has 5 charges, and it regains 1d4+1 expended charges daily at dawn. You can use the charges in the following ways while holding it:

  • As an action, you can expend 1 charge to cast any of the 7 spells stored in this tome freely. Although you do need to accomplish the spell's cast time, conditions and materials needed for the spell if it needs to.
  • You can expend 1 charge to replace one of your prepared spells in the book with a new spell you find in another book or someone decides to teach you. Taking 1 hour of your time to copy and rewrite on the spellbook. The new spell must be of the necromancy school.
  • As an action, you can expend 1 charge to make you and up to 2 other allies to take on a semblance of undeath for 10 minutes. For the duration, you take on a deathly appearance, and undead creatures are indifferent to you, unless you have damaged them. You also appear undead to all outward inspection and to spells used to determine the target's status. The effect ends if you deal damage or force a creature to make a saving throw.
