Weapon (crossbow, hand), very rare (requires attunement by a a humanoid, any class)

A hip-mounted grappling cannon that fires a metal claw at a target, piercing and embedding into the surface. The hook is attached to a small backpack containing a spring-charged reel of enchanted silk cable. The cable can extend up to 120 feet and hold the body-weight of its user and their equipment.

Old Kenku Construction. The Zip Pack is an ancient magitech device of peerless craftsmanship, assembled by the Kenku of Kosè. Attempting to disassemble or modify it requires a DC25 Arcana check just to avoid breaking the thing, then additional difficulty checks to do stuff to it.

Anchor (action, 1 charge): Fire the cannon into a surface, creating an anchor. If shooting at anything other than an inanimate surface, use the Attack action.

Rappel (free): While anchored to a target, you can move freely in any lateral direction, letting out slack or releasing the anchor at will. If you choose to move toward your target, you must use the Zip action.

Zip (bonus action, 1 charge): Release the brake lever, instantly rocketing toward an anchored surface, moving up to twice your speed. While zipping, you cannot take any other form of movement, and cannot stop moving until you reach your anchor.

Attack (action): The cannon can be used as a standard weapon. On a successful hit, target must make a DC15 Str saving throw or be pulled 10 feet in your direction. If the target is size Large or bigger, you can treat them as a grappling anchor.

Recharge (action): The zip pack has 6 charges. At any time, you may spend 5 minutes to rewind the spring-loaded crank that powers the device, restoring 2 charges.

Proficiency with a Hand Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.


This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
