Weapon (shortsword), artifact (requires attunement)

Yin is the twin and opposite of Yang. This sword has a gleaming pure white blade with an obsidian hilt. It is the result of a druids deal with a fey. It is the embodiment of good and the darkness hidden within just causes.

Yin is a magic, sentient shortsword that grants a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it. It scores a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20, and deals an extra 2d10 psychic damage to undead and evil creatures.

Random Properties. Yin has the following random properties:

  • While attuned to the artifact, you can use an action to cast Purify Food and Drink from it. After you cast the spell Purify Food and Drink, roll a d6. On a roll of 1–5, you can’t cast it again until the next dawn.
  • While attuned to the artifact, your constitution score increases by 2.
  • While attuned to the artifact, nonmagical flames are extinguished within 30 feet of you.
  • While attuned to the artifact, undead are hostile to you.

True Balance. While the sword and its twin is on your person, you add a d10 to your initiative at the start of every combat. In addition, you gain the ability to use your reaction to deflect half of the damage dealt to you back at your attacker.

Spells. While the sword is on your person, you can use an action to cast one of the following spells (save DC 18) from it: Reincarnate, or Regenerate. Once you use the sword to cast a spell, you can’t cast that spell again from it until the next dawn.

Sentience. Yin is a sentient lawful good weapon with an Intelligence of 15, a Wisdom of 13, and a Charisma of 16. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet.

The weapon communicates telepathically with its wielder and can speak, read, and understand Common.

Personality. The sword is the embodiment of all things good. It has a strong sense of justice and a strong moral compass. It will do everything in it's power to convince its wielder to act with kindness and enact justice.

Destroying the Sword. The sword is destroyed if used to enact a truly horrific act of evil such as genocide.

Proficiency with a Shortsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
