Wondrous Item, rare

The Thought Reservoir is a finely crafted glass container, approximately 10 inches tall and adorned with delicate silver filigree. Within its clear walls, an ethereal mist perpetually swirls, revealing strands of vibrant colors that dance and intertwine like wisps of thought.

Description: When you cast the cantrip Encode Thoughts while holding the Thought Reservoir, you can store thought strands within the reservoir.

  • The encoded thoughts persist indefinitely within the Thought Reservoir.
  • The maximum number of strands that can be stored in the reservoir is equal to your Intelligence modifier + 5.

Activation: To activate the Thought Reservoir and display the captured thoughts, you must speak a command word and gently tap the reservoir. The reservoir emits a soft hum, and the mist inside begins to shift and coalesce into tangible forms. The strands of thought manifest as shimmering threads that float and twist within the container, forming intricate patterns and symbols that represent the captured concepts.

You can choose to end this display at any time by tapping the reservoir's base again or by speaking the command word.

Extracting Thoughts: If you are proficient with the Arcana skill, you can attempt to extract specific strands of thought from the reservoir. As an action, you may make an Intelligence (Arcana) check with a DC equal to 10 plus the spellcasting modifier of the creature who encoded the thoughts. On a successful check, you retrieve the desired strand, which manifests as a spectral thread that you can hold in your hand or release to disperse into the air.

Destroying the Reservoir: The Thought Reservoir is fragile, and if it is dropped or otherwise subjected to significant impact, it shatters, causing all captured thoughts within it to dissipate immediately. Additionally, the reservoir can be destroyed by specific magical effects or spells, as determined by the Dungeon Master.

Note: The Thought Reservoir is a unique item that can foster creativity, intrigue, and the exploration of one's own thoughts. It is commonly sought after by scholars, scribes, and adventurers who value the preservation and analysis of knowledge. However, its potential for misuse or invasion of privacy should not be overlooked, and caution is advised when sharing or handling encoded thoughts.
