 Description: The Wither Thorn is a mysterious and dangerous magical weapon in the form of a dormant thorny vine. It holds great power, but it comes at a terrible cost. Once attuned, it will gradually unlock its stages as the wielder gains experience and proficiency. However, the full extent of its detrimental effects on the wielder's health is not immediately apparent.

Shape-changing Properties: Upon attunement, the Wither Thorn appears as a dormant thorny vine, its true form concealed. As the wielder gains levels and proficiency, the weapon will gradually reveal its true potential, eventually adapting to any weapon the wielder is proficient with.

Adaptive Bonuses (Locked): While in its locked state, the Wither Thorn provides the following bonuses:

  1. Potential Unleashed: While wielding the locked Wither Thorn, the wielder gains a +1 bonus to attack rolls.

  2. Withering Aspiration: The wielder's critical hits deal additional necrotic damage equal to the wielder's level. This effect is dormant until the weapon fully unlocks.

  3. Growth and Progression: The Wither Thorn grows in power as the wielder gains levels and proficiency. Upon reaching 5th level, the attack bonus increases to +2, and upon reaching 11th level, it increases to +3.

Sentience (Locked): Even in its locked state, the Wither Thorn possesses a faint spark of sentience, allowing it to communicate telepathically with its attuned wielder. While its abilities are mostly dormant, it can still offer cryptic hints and guidance, nurturing a bond with its chosen wielder.

Unlocking the Wither Thorn: To fully unlock the potential of the Wither Thorn, the wielder must demonstrate their combat prowess and resolve during their adventures. As they gain experience points, the weapon will gradually reveal more of its abilities. The Wither Thorn may subtly communicate with the wielder through vague visions or dreams, providing cryptic clues about the weapon's true nature.

 

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.


This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
