The Wonder Wagon is a name given to a vardo a caravan type wagon created by Simon Strongheart. Simon was the younger of two sons born to Herd Strongheart (a business man who founded the highly successful manufacturing of house hold ever day items). When his older brother Tan Strongheart declined his father's offer to join the family firm, Simon, the more studious, less athletic of the two, readily accepted. When Herd Strongheart died, Simon inherited full control over the business, although he was only 72 quite young for a dwarf. Under Simon's inexperienced management, Strongheart Innovations began to lose its competitive edge in the marketplace. A chance encounter with "a rather mad gnome and dedicated to the god Gond" changed the course of the company and the company's profits.
A Wonder Wagon design includes large wheels set outside the body, whose sides slope outward considerably as they rise like a boat. The wagon's interior is typically outfitted with built-in seats, cabinets, a wardrobe, bunks in the rear of the caravan, a chest of drawers, and a curved roof. A yoke type steering device. A hand brake slows the wagon, a rear door is common with the option of windows. Wagons' exteriors can range from fairly plain to intricately carved, painted in bright colors, and sheathed in places with gold leaf. A Stone Horse is used to pull the Wonder Wagon. The Stone Horse is a fullsized, roughly hewn statue of a heavy horse, carved from some type of hard stone. A command word brings the steed to life, enabling it to carry a burden and even to attack as if it were a real horse of the appropriate kind.
A stone horse can carry 1,000 pounds tirelessly and never needs to rest or feed. Damage dealt to it can be repaired by first using a stone to flesh spell, thus causing the stone horse to become a normal horse that can be healed normally. When fully healed, it automatically reverts to its stone form. While in its stone form, it can be fed gems, healing 1 point of damage for each 50 gp worth of mineral it is given.
Wonder Wagons can be modified to include small ballista type weapons. Each Wonder Wagon costs the equivalent of a Small house - cost 1000sp- 500 gp. Popular with some merchants, tradesmen, or a few adventuring party's that can spare the coin.
