This Ol' Rifle, once belonging to Colt's grandfather, is a single-action breech-loading rifle from a much simpler time. It has a reload score of 1, a jamming score of 7, and a misfire score of 2 (due to the age and condition of the rifle).
- A weapon's reload score is the number of times it can be shot before having to use an action to reload it. (Better weapons and more practice could get this down to a bonus action)
- If an attack roll is less than or equal to the jamming score, the weapon jams, and an action must be taken either in combat or out of combat to fix it. Must succeed on a DC 12 survival check.
- If an attack roll is less than or equal to the misfire score, the weapon misfires dealing 1d4 piercing damage to the user, the weapon is then broken and can only be repaired outside of combat with a set of tinkerer's tools.
It’s up to you to decide whether a character has proficiency with a firearm. Characters in most D&D worlds wouldn’t have such proficiency. During their downtime, characters can use the training rules in the Player’s Handbook to acquire proficiency, assuming that they have enough ammunition to keep the weapons working while mastering their use.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Slow. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. If the creature is hit more than once by weapons that have this property, the Speed reduction doesn’t exceed 10 feet.
Notes: Damage, Combat, Range, Two-Handed, Ammunition (Firearms), Reload, Slow
