This magic sword’s blade has been infused with the dark essence of the Shadowfell. You gain +1 to attack and damage rolls with this weapon.  Additionally, when you hit with an attack roll using this sword, the target takes an extra 1d8 psychic damage.

Once per long rest, while you’re holding the sword, you can use a bonus action to expend a number of hit dice (maximum 3) to, for one minute, deal an additional 1d8 of psychic damage per hit dice spent this way.

Proficiency with a Shortsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
