+2 Adamantine Plate. This dark metal plate armor displays magical images that constantly reenact the stories of the Epic of Thed; an Orcish epic myth about the hero Thed and his companions. The wearer may, as a reaction to being hit by an attack, cast Shield as a 1st level spell, causing the images to spring forth from the armor and protect him for a short time. Once Shield has be cast in this manner, the wearer cannot do so again until they complete a long rest.

Design note: As an alternate recharge mechanic, consider having the wearer make a DC 15 History check to recite some passages from the Epic of Thed during the course of a long rest to recharge the item.

 

Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
