Armor (shield), rare (requires attunement)

This elegantly crafted shield has an intricate lining of gold and a gleaming rond adorned with four sword designs. When wielded, it summons six spectral polearms that float in the air around the wielder. These weapons are ethereal and shimmer with a magical aura.

  • Guardian Blades: As an action, the wielder can activate the shield to summon six magical polearms of several varieties that hover around them for 1 minute. These weapons provide a defensive perimeter. The shield has 6 charges, and it uses one charge to summon the swords. The claymore regains 1d4 + 1 expended charges daily at dawn.

  • Defensive Strike: When a hostile creature enters within 5 feet of the wielder for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, two of the spectral polearms attempt to strike it. The creature must make a Dexterity saving throw with a DC of 15. On a failed save, the creature takes 2d6 piercing damage. On a successful save, it takes no damage. This puts the two used weapons on cooldown for 3 rounds, during which time they cannot be used for offense, but can still be used for defense.

  • Spectral Defense: The weapons surrounding the wielder can deflect incoming attacks, when attuning you may either choose to gain a resistance to all nonmagical attacks while wielding the shield, or a three casts of shield of faith per long rest, which manifests as two new spectral weapons protecting the target for the duration.

Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
