The Xiphos is a relic from a long forgotten era in Sanctuary's past. Byz, the consciousness trapped within a book discovered in Lygos, stated that the Xiphos was one of the first vessels created in the city's grand shipyard and, with all the fondness that a book can muster, recalled that it had earned a place in her collection after a tumultuous maiden voyage. Now, in the hands of Brynjolf and Clamor, the ship is ready to voyage across the world once more.
Ship in a Bottle. In its base form, this object appears to be a ship in a bottle, depicting a penteconter amid the waves with its sails raised and its oars extended. When the bottle is rotated, the ship stays upright. The bottle is a little over a foot long and weighs 1 lb. When creature holding the bottle uses an action to speak the command word "Ek Néou," the ship inside emerges in the direction the bottle is pointed.
Penteconter. In its expanded form, the ship is 15 feet at its widest and measures 90 feet from its bow to its stern, with a 10 foot long ship's ram in front of that at the waterline. The ship has a 2 foot draft and a 6 foot freeboard. Its hull is made of oak, while the rest of the ship is made of cedar. It has a single, uncovered deck with seating for 50 rowers, 25 on each side, as well as seating and an oar for a helmsman at the stern. There is a covered storage area, approximately 10 feet by 5 feet by 5 feet, set into the deck behind the helmsman's seat. The ship can hold 2 tons of cargo before its speed is significantly affected. The ship also has a single mast and a square sail. The front of the ship is painted with a pair of eyes with black sclera, gold pupils, and horizontal and rectangular pupils. Finally, the boat's ram is a 500 pound, spiked bronze wedge that is secured to an oak base.
A full crew compliment requires 50 rowers and 1 helmsman. The ship can fit an additional 15 passengers comfortably.
When under oar power, a well trained crew can maintain a speed of 4 mph for up to four hours (Cruising Speed), 8 mph for up to one hour (Fast Pace), or 16 mph for up to 1 minute (Ramming Speed) before needing a rest. When sailing with medium-strength, leeward wind, the ship can maintain a speed of 4 mph (Full Sails) with no rowers or improve Cruising Speed and Fast Pace to 8 mph and 12 mph respectively; Ramming Speed outpaces medium-strength wind. When sailing with strong, leeward wind, the ship the ship can maintain a speed of 6 mph (Full Sails) with no rowers or improve Cruising Speed to 10 mph, Fast Pace to 14 mph, and Ramming Speed to 18 mph.
The ship's hull has an Armor Class of 15, 500 hit points, a damage threshold of 20, Damage Immunity to Poison and Psychic, and Condition Immunity to Blinded, Charmed, Deafened, Exhaustion, Frightened, Incapacitated, Paralyzed, Petrified, Poisoned, Prone, Stunned, and Unconscious.
The ship's naval ram has an Armor Class of 20, 100 hit points, a damage threshold of 20, and shares the hull's Damage and Condition Immunities. The ship has advantage on all saving throws relating to crashing when it crashes into a creature or an object. Any damage it takes from the crash is applied to the naval ram rather than to the ship. These benefits don't apply if another vessel crashes into the galley.
If there are no creatures on the ship, a creature holding the ship's bottle may touch the mouth of bottle to the stern of the ship and uses an action to speak the command word "Ela Piso," causing the Xiphos to disappear in a puff of purple smoke, reappearing inside of the bottle. Any objects on the vessel or in the cargo hold do not disappear with the ship and instead fall to the ground.
