This unassuming pendant features a small, intricately carved toad. When worn, the pendant magically attaches itself to the wearer and cannot be removed by normal means. The pendant pulses with a barely audible croaking sound, audible only to the wearer, whenever the wearer approaches a container.
Curse. Once worn, the Toadkeeper's Pendant cannot be removed unless a remove curse spell or similar magic is cast on the wearer. Whenever the wearer opens a container (such as a chest, barrel, closet, etc.), 2d4 toads leap out of the container. This effect happens once per container. The toads disappear after 1 hour or if they are killed.
Toad Catching. To catch a toad and put it back in the container, the wearer must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) or Dexterity (Animal Handling) check. Each successful check allows the wearer to return one toad to the container, where it disappears. On a failed check, the toad evades capture and the wearer can attempt to catch it again on their next turn.
Noise Alert. The croaking of the toads is loud and noticeable. Each round, any nearby creatures can make a DC 10 Wisdom (Perception) check to notice the noise. Creatures that succeed on this check become aware of the disturbance and may investigate, depending on their disposition and the context.
Breaking the Curse. To remove the amulet, the wearer must gather all the toads that jumped out and put them back in the container. Once all the toads are returned to the container and the lid is closed, the amulet detaches and can be removed.
