Wondrous Item, legendary

This object originally appears to be a crate, about 2 feet by 2 feet. It's pretty heavy, and not very easily movable. There is a small crank lever on one side. It can easily float if pushed into water.

Turning the crank handle will begin to unfold the crate into a 15 foot sailboat. The boat has one pair of oars, an anchor, a mast, and a lateen sail. The boat can hold up to four Medium creatures comfortably. Once unfolded, it is of the expected boat weight. The crank lever remains on the deck of the sailboat, near the ship's wheel.

There is a small cabin on board. Inside the cabin are sleeping bunks for four creatures, a small table, and storage space. On the table is bolted a small globe. DC10 Investigation - you find you can twist open the globe to reveal another, much smaller lever. Turning this lever will activate the Submarine Mode of the Wave Turner.

Submarine Mode - The Wave Turner submarine form unfurls a sort of wooden cover over the deck of the boat, with a huge window forming in the front for navigation. There’s a magical shield that protects the boat and makes it waterproof. Metal propellers unfurl at the bottom, and two levers appear next to the ship’s wheel; one lever can activate the propellers, which can only be made to move the boat forward at the speed controlled by the lever (max 60 feet/round, about 4mph). The other lever can increase or decrease the Wave Turner's depth. At max speed, because there are 12 hours’ worth of air, the ship can travel approximately 48 miles underwater before air becomes a concern.

The ship is fueled magically in submarine mode, but requires a full 24 hours to recharge after expending all 12 hours of run & air time. If the Wave Turner is underwater when there is only 10 minutes' worth of air and fuel left, it will automatically try to surface, overriding anything the crew may try to do to stop it. Upon reaching the surface in this state, the Wave Turner will automatically de-activate Submarine Mode and become a normal 15-foot sailboat.

When the box becomes a vessel, its weight becomes that of a normal vessel its size, and anything that was stored in the box remains in the boat.

When turning the lever crank on deck, the boat will fold back into crate form. It will take approximately 60 seconds to do so. Anything stored on the boat in its storage space is inaccessible, as the crate appears empty if pried open. However, if the crate is pried open, it must be fully sealed before it can be turned back into The Wave Turner.

If The Wave Turner is under attack, it effectively has an AC of 14 and 100 HP; however, at 50HP, it will start to take on water. If nothing is done to stop the incoming water, it will take an additional 5HP at the end of every round.
