You can spend 10 minutes to calibrate the cannon to accelerate your ship to light speed for a maximum of 240miles (10 hexes on the map) of distance.

While doing so the ship counts as being incorporeal, so it can't bump into objects, but it can do so as it lands, so it's impossible to set the final destination in a trafficked area.
