Wondrous Item, uncommon (requires attunement by a To attune to the compass, the user must spend 10 minutes reflecting on their desires, dreams, and direction in life.)

This silver compass is small and unassuming, its needle shimmering faintly with an otherworldly glow. Instead of pointing north, the needle shifts erratically at times, as though searching for something unseen. The face of the compass is engraved with delicate, swirling patterns reminiscent of Fey design.

Properties

1. Heart’s Path.
The compass points toward the user’s greatest desire or need at that moment. This could be:
• A location they subconsciously feel drawn to.
• An object they are searching for.
• A person they need to find (if they are within 10 miles).

The user must spend 1 minute in quiet focus while holding the compass to activate this ability. Upon doing so, the needle spins wildly for a few moments before settling in the desired direction. This ability can be used once per long rest.

DM Note: The compass does not always lead the user to the best outcome. Fey magic can be mischievous, and the “path” may be literal or metaphorical, leaving room for storytelling twists.

2. Fey-Glint.
When the compass is within 60 feet of a Fey creature, portal, or object infused with Fey magic, the needle begins to tremble slightly, and the surface of the compass glows faintly with silvery light.

The light is faint (5-foot radius, dim light) and does not provide enough illumination to spoil stealth in darkness.

3. Unreliable Direction.
Because the compass is attuned to emotions and desires, the needle occasionally spins unpredictably when the user is in emotional turmoil, undecided about their path, or standing at a significant crossroads (literal or metaphorical). In such moments, the DM may have the compass behave erratically to reflect Rory’s internal conflict.

Notes: To attune to the compass, the user must spend 10 minutes reflecting on their desires, dreams, and direction in life.
