While holding this Shield, you have a bonus to Armor Class determined by the Shield’s rarity, in addition to the Shield’s normal bonus to AC.
When a humanoid creature dies within 15ft of you while carrying this shield, you can absorb its spirit. The name of the creature is carved on the shield, for a maximum of 10 names. When found, the shield has 1d10 names on it.
When you take damage while using this shield, you can use a reaction to call fourth any number of the spirits named on the shield and reduce the damage by 1d10+1 per spirit. Alternatively, you can use the spell speak with dead on one of the names, without needing the body. After using either of these effects, the name disappears and the spirit is gone.
Cursed: This item curses the user when they first attune to it. If the user dies, and there is less than 10 names are written on the shield, the spirit of the user is absorbed into the shield. The user cannot be resurrected in any way unless the shield is cleansed by a greater restoration or similar magics.
A remove curse spell suppresses this effect for 24 hours or the curse ends if the user ends attunement.
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, Combat, Warding, Cursed
