Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement by a Any)

The Wanderer is a radiant card, about the size of a playing card, made from a material that shifts between gold, pearl, and azure hues. Its surface depicts a carefree figure stepping toward the edge of a cliff, a satchel over their shoulder and a playful dog at their side, set against a dreamlike landscape of rolling hills and a living sun. The imagery subtly moves when observed—clouds drift, the figure’s hair stirs, and the dog wags its tail. The reverse is a swirling aurora of shimmering colors that ripple in response to touch or emotion. The card hums with inviting, chaotic energy, is warm to the touch, and resists mundane containers, often slipping free or reappearing unexpectedly.

The Call of the Unknown While attuned, you feel an overwhelming urge to explore and seek new experiences, making it difficult to settle in one place. At the end of each long rest, roll a Wisdom saving throw (DC 18). On a failure, you must spend the day traveling in a random direction or pursuing an unrelated whim. This compulsion lasts until you succeed on the saving throw or encounter a significant new discovery.
Serendipity’s Shield When you would be reduced to 0 hit points, roll 1d20. On a 10 or higher, you instead drop to 1 hit point. This property can’t be used again until the next dawn.
Magical Musings As an action, you can embrace the chaotic essence of the Fool, rolling 1d100 on the Wild Magic Surge Table from the Sorcerer class. This ability recharges at dawn.

Fool’s Luck

While attuned to this item, you can harness its unpredictable energy to manipulate fate. After rolling a d20 but before the result is revealed, you can declare the roll a "natural 20." However, doing so sets into motion the following effects:

  1. The "20" on your die is replaced with a "1" for all future rolls.
  2. Each subsequent d20 roll you make that does not result in a natural "1" causes the next highest number (e.g., "19," then "18," etc.) to also become a "1."
  3. This continues until you roll a natural "1," at which point the die resets to its original configuration, and this ability becomes usable again.
