Me and a few friends are a few sessions into our first ever campaign. Due to life happening some players miss sessions every now and then. My question is how should we handle experience between players? Some of the characters are about half way through level 4 while some are sitting at the beginning of level 3.
Is it that much of a difference to be a level or 2 behind? If so what is the best way to keep players up to speed without handing them free experience? Also do some classes being a few levels behind make more of a difference than others? (I’m asking because the tempest cleric and rogue have missed the most sessions)
relatively new to DnD and about to start off on my first extended homebrew campaign. Party so far consist of a Battlemaster fighter, a trickster cleric, a lore bard, and a Druid. I kind of wanna take on the front line support/tank of the party and I’m torn between Tempest cleric or Ancients paladin.
What Are the pros and cons of each? Can a tempest cleric do just fine on the front line? Any advice will help!
DM said I could use it while I wielding a “wooden” spear. Pretty tempted to try it. Would let me not have to worry about strength too much (I like strength weapons more than dex) and I can focus on Con and probably charisma. Min/maxing it might not be great but the idea and role playing part of it seems cool.
thinking of taking magic initiate with my variant human feat as a (eventually) beast master ranger. Is pumping wisdom up high and taking Shillelagh for my wooden spear a good idea? Does the damage scale okay or is it better to go strength?
Just curious if it’s possible to take Hex (or any other weapon damage bonuses) for a bard if you take the magic initiate feat, and if so is it any good?
Looking to make a mountain dwarf or human valor bard who stands on the front lines and is a back up melee damage dealer while buffing up his comrades. I know I’ll never be THE damage dealer or THE tank but the “skald” concept in my head always seemed cool. (Thinking of a Skald class kind of in the dark age of Camelot games if that helps any) I’m not really locked into any race or build but I do know I want to make a valor bard
A couple of questions.. A) is this viable at all? I’m not a min/max player but I want to be useful. B) is strength valor bard worth it? Or should I just go Vuman and go dex build? C) the concept of a heavy armor bard seems awesome, but that requires me to use a feat AND buy heavy armor which seems like a lot to get minimal gain out of.
Other than the mounted combatant feat is there anything else? Primarily I plan on using a spear or Warhammer as my weapon. With the mobility of my mount I feel I can kinda pick my fights.
Is dex better than strength for what I’m going for?
So I’m about to embark on my 2nd ever campaign (first one I was in got disbanded around level 6 or 7...) and I was looking into a beast master ranger with a mastiff pet he uses as his mount! The DM (who is also semi new) said I could use a dwarf as a race and still ride my “overly large” mastiff pet.
The image I have in my head is a decently armored dwarf riding a mastiff with either a spear or a Warhammer, a shield, and a crossbow.
My questions are, stat wise what works? Any feats worth taking? Is it viable at all? The concept sounds fun and I don’t care too much for min/maxing but I don’t want to be totally useless

How are tempest clerics in the front line too? Some of their abilities seem like they can control the field well.

This is all of them. And we are all pretty new to DnD. I know I want to be either a paladin or tempest cleric But don’t know which one to go with.

Hmm.. semi new to the game. Is there any other weapon damage add spells similar to hex or hunters mark? That would be good for a bard?

Oh damn. Probably not worth it then I’m assuming?

Is it any good though? And why can’t you use your spell slots at higher level?

Weapon damage wise how would it do? Thinking a mountain dwarf with a Longsword or Warhammer and shield. Any spells to help me boost that?

With the mobility of having a mount I think keeping my distance won’t be too much of a factor no?
