Ram. Melee Attack Roll: +6, reach 10 ft. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) Bludgeoning damage plus 5 (2d4) Radiant damage. If the target is a Huge or smaller creature and the elk moved 20+ feet straight toward it immediately before the hit, the target takes an extra 5 (2d4) Bludgeoning damage and has the Prone condition.
Another Giant Beast that went Celestial. So strange. I get it from a "Mythological feel" but this removes Giant Elk from the Moon Druid unnecessarliy.
So what is the lore for these guys? How do they speak celestial? And why can they understand other languages but only speak celestial? If they are going to try to find a way to nerf moon druids they forgot to get the Giant Bat so they still failed.
I know right? It is kinda weird. I feel like it should be a different creature or variant of the creature that is celestial, making 2 statblocks for the differnt cases. A Giant Elk, and the a Celestial Giant Elk or something. Same with the Giant Eagle. Oh well, I like the idea just I feel it was not the popular use of Giant Elk.
It would make more sense if they didn't rip the Description off that was in 2014. This is the worst part of the MM 2025: the DRIVE to ADD new stuff, while REMOVING old stuff. Just add. Don't DELETE valid stuff!!!
Here is what was removed, which 100% explains the Lore changes. In fact, the OLD Description makes MORE SENSE for the NEW Monster, yet, the NEW Monster has ZERO Description. So sad...
"The majestic giant elk is rare to the point that its appearance is often taken as a foreshadowing of an important event, such as the birth of a king. Legends tell of gods that take the form of giant elk when visiting the Material Plane. Many cultures therefore believe that to hunt these creatures is to invite divine wrath."
C'mon. Do better WotC.
I get space constraints in PRINT media. I get that.
But PRINT is DEAD. There is ZERO reason to REMOVE Lore that actually EXPLAINS your changes. It's just dumb.
Yet, this happened AT LEAST 50 times throughout the book.
A great way to celebrate 50 years. Let's just throw away 50 useful Monster Descriptions to save a few pages.
Fine, again, I get not wanting to make a 400 page book. I get that. I don't agree with that, because the book could have been $10 more.
I also get not wanting to provide something that is not in the NEW book for the NEW monster.
But, this is DIGITAL. It is a WEBSITE and APP.
There is ZERO reason to not have "Legacy Description" for the NEW Monster and provide that when there is no "Description".
Overlay. Not Remove. That's the Ticket!

It is super confusing since the entry is still listed in the "animal appendix" and as a moon druid that is the go to place to find wild shape options. However both it and the giant eagle are technically not beasts so they really should not be in the animal appendix.
