Hold Breath. The hydra can hold its breath for 1 hour.
Multiple Heads. The hydra has five heads. Whenever the hydra takes 25 damage or more on a single turn, one of its heads dies. The hydra dies if all its heads are dead. At the end of each of its turns when it has at least one living head, the hydra grows two heads for each of its heads that died since its last turn, unless it has taken Fire damage since its last turn. The hydra regains 20 Hit Points when it grows new heads.
Reactive Heads. For each head the hydra has beyond one, it gets an extra Reaction that can be used only for Opportunity Attacks.
Multiattack. The hydra makes as many Bite attacks as it has heads.
Bite. Melee Attack Roll: +8, reach 10 ft. Hit: 10 (1d10 + 5) Piercing damage.
"Thou remindest me of the ranger who thought he could make friends with a hydra because he was sure a couple of the heads would like him. They liked him, all right. They liked his arms, legs, toes... So sit still and listen."
Poor hydra, still not a dragon.
Nerfed hard :(
Can you explain how it is nerfed? I don see a single stat that is lowered.
Used to gain 10hp per head regrown, now even if it grows 8 heads at one time (which happened in my last session) it only gains 20hp back total.
If the right amount of damage was done a hydra could have previously gotten nutty with how many heads it has! Now they likely die quicker so they dont get that chance.
That's legit. Thanks for pointing it out, I guess I never read that part right. Somehow assumed it is 10 total :)
This sounds like a DM problem ;)
I wish it was clear how CR shifted (as well as stat block!) if it was an 'elder' Hydra - say seven or eight heads in its normal state. In some old DnD drawings (say the Hydra in the Crypt of the Talhund in Phandelver and Below) the monstrosity clearly has more than 5 heads (7 in that isntance).
I feel like Hydras should also be weak to physic damage. Multiple heads, multiple mind targets.
a hydra with 30 heads, DPR is 300 + 300 from Opportunity Attacks. bye tarrasque
you're only hitting one of the heads, the others would be fine
