Hey adventurers!
The time has come to bid a fond farewell to the current iteration of the D&D Beyond Twitch Extension. While the tool has had a good ride since its launch in October of 2018, it's now time for us to look ahead and consider even better ways to serve you, the creators in our community. Here are a few brief details regarding the sunsetting of the current extension:
Why did the extension stop working?
Twitch recently changed some internal policies, and our extension, which we hadn't updated, was deactivated by the platform. As content creators' needs have changed, as D&D's rules have changed, and as our tools and services have changed, our original Twitch extension wasn't meeting our standards for quality, nor did it represent what today's D&D Beyond toolset can do. Rather than putting bandages on top of bandages to maintain the current extension, we decided to allow the extension to retire.
Will the extension come back?
Short answer: YES! While we wish our timing had better aligned with Twitch's changes, instead of developing a new version of the Twitch extension, we've put our sights on a new set of tools to support creators who want to use D&D Beyond in their game streams and content.
Thank you for using the Twitch extension these past few years, and we are grateful for your patience as we chart a new course for game streams and content tools. We will keep the community posted on major milestones as the work progresses.
Dear D&DBeyond,
Would you be so kind as to post a roadmap/ETA on where the Twitch extension might be going?
With so many streamers out there, would you add a resource for OBS too?
Thanks in advance and keep on rocking!
Any updates on this?
Cant wait for whatever is next, that integration is awesome and desired, thanks for working hard on this!
The twitch D&DB Extension will be part of the Premium Plus :tm: tier of New D&D Beyond Subscription Plans.
All the things you loved using for free, now paid! Gotta stop that undermonitization of D&D!
As much as I liked using this, there are so many quirky, missing, and outright broken things with the site and app that I'm glad their focusing their limited development efforts elsewhere on more systemic issues. And, that's just today.
The staff is facing a very daunting task of providing 100% backwards compatibility to 5E while also supporting 6E / One D&D. They MUST both be supported side-by-side, and to say I have my concerns is an understatement. It is not "backwards compatible". That's PR speak.
Today is easy mode compared to the future. Without the proper foundation and DM features which don't exist, the entire thing is going to fall on its face.
Frankly, I'm happy that the Extension hasn't been worked on, even though I would love to see it, and I used it weekly in my streams. There are so many more things that are higher priority in order to help ensure future successes, or, at least, avoid future disasters.
Please bring this back.
Not until they roll out the new paid tiers so they can charge us for something that should be free
Team, I'd love to have an overlay i can use in OBS that syncs my character sheet. No need for a twitch extension. This could be a small version of my character sheet with HP, and some stats. Nothing too fancy. I can make this now but there is no way that it will update automatically. If there is a solution for this already, I'd love to know!
I'm guessing there is still nothing and there probably won't be any twitch extension?
Has there been any progress in the last few years in redesigning the Twitch Extension?
