Yeah, these are all terrible so far. This is the time of year that I'm trying to save up money for the Holidays and these discounts are just invitations to spend money I don't have. I wish there were free monsters or free digital dice, but heck I'd be happy with coloring pages or cool folding patterns I could share with my kid.
And they are not great deals either. I agree that DNDB could give us a new set of online dice, background, character sheet, etc. Or give us 50% off a one year subscription with choice of of either type (hero at the least) for new customers (you've never subscribed before). Or a discount on upgrading your subscription from hero to master.
Honestly, I don't have a problem with some of the advent calendar being coupons and advertisements for other D&D products.
But FFS whoever set this up should have at least spaced them out so it's not everything one right after the other.
I mean heck, you don't have to do much other stuff. I'm not asking for Planescape for free, but freaking coloring pages? Maybe a few holiday themed magic items that you can get on your characters.
Just a new thing that's fun and doesn't cost money every other day?
Ppl here are complaining that they don't get free dice and books, which is kinda meh. I agree that the discounts are shit but they had some great fold-able decorations last year. Those things would be cheaper than giving away free dice and also nice. It's about the Christmas spirit. It has to be free but not of huge value. It's not a present if we have to pay for it. You could also throw in homebrewed items or stuff like that. That does not subtract from sales. This year has been really disappointing so far. Only discounts on useless stuff for the sake of profit...
For these to be cool they'd have to know why last year's was exciting for people and actually care to replicate that experience, which is something WotC is unable to do and proves this time and time again with their actions. Corporations like this truly only want us to buy things, that's it. Keeping us happy and entertained is a secondary requirement of this overall goal, and it's hardly a requirement. Really they have to give us just enough to keep us placated. It's a shame that this is so lame, but an expected outcome of the world we live in.
I hope everyone has a truly wonderful holiday, that you get beset by unexpected trinkets of delight that far surpass anything you sought here. Whatever you celebrate - or even if you don't celebrate at all - I hope the spirit of humanity and creativity surround you with love and joy over the next months. If you find yourself disappointed in this calendar and looking through these comments I hope that this one can be the tiny gift you didn't get.
Happy adventuring!
Yeah, and they could even be common items that are mostly flavor...like something (a band or collar) that makes your pet or familiar's nose glow like Rudolph and goes with him if he is temporarily dismissed. Or a bell that rings at midnight (as long as it isn't in it's box). A lump of coal that cleans chimneys/fireplaces? A Stocking of holding that only works for 12 days when activated...and can only be used once a year (it always looks full). A candelabra or candleholder where any candle placed in it lasts 8 nights. A box that keeps leftovers fresh (and only leftovers) fresh for a few days. A pole that gets longer when you air a grievance. Anyone have a suggestion (a mat?) for Kwanzaa?
Yep! You too!
i want to have some free stuff like digital dice or something
True.
I'm so bored of these discounts. I'd try to grapple a red dragon to get free stuff instead of discounts.
For those hoping they are good this year so far… only if you want to spend more money are they slightly good
Five Days...
No gift, just taking less.
1. coffee discount
2. save ten dollars on a product
3. Discounts
4. Discounts
5. Discounts
jesus please don't let it all be discounts!
Nice! Skins in a game I don’t play. Gimme hearthstone goodies not idle champions or what ever it was. Its like a diy advent calendar where you buy yourself the gifts.
will we even get dnd.com things?
So I see you've gone fully capitalist. There's nothing free or awesome here. Last year I at least had cool stuff to print out and color with my students, this is all just asking me for more of my hard-earned cash. I give you guys enough every month and have bought almost every book and supplement. Why are you asking me for more money? Why can't you kick down some actually cool free stuff when you say you're going to?
If I hadn't invested so much, maybe I wouldn't be so mad, but this is insulting.
and to boot, using the link probably gives them a bit of a kickback for forwarding the customer to them
The biggest issue with the D&D brand is Hasbro. WoTC used to have more control over what they did and now they are at the mercy of Hasbro higher ups telling them what they can and cannot do. Yeah it's nice having their money but they don't have control of their own company anymore :(...
Thanks for linking super helpful
While we're all waiting for actual gifts and not discounts, does anyone have links to free dnd beyond stuff? Relatively new account, so any free gifts in the past given out I probably don't have.
So judging by fact that one person spoilered info about wulfgar hours before my callendar button could be tapped i assume rest of info about following days are accurate too
Imo it's hilariously cringe to feed us with discounts on your or product your sponsors are eager to sell (some of which not available even) with the only "gifts" on dnd beyond promissing to be...already "available for free" content
idk is it some kind of corporate chutzpah or you really consider us so challenged that we couldn't find a links to this dices in 2 minutes and be glad to content we already was gifted? Is it some Gobseck "remember gift i give you two years ago? now time to thank me again" spirit. I have no idea about motivation behind such "actual gifts" but it's just look ****ed
anyway if someone joined beyond just today, you can find very likely spoiler of "generous" gift https://www.dndbeyond.com/claim/dice/sanguine and https://www.dndbeyond.com/claim/dice/flourishing instead of waiting it's landing in new tab 2+weeks later....
