Warning: The content you are about to read does not reflect the views of D&D Beyond, and is in fact geared towards those who relish in the dumb and disturbing content published by MAD Magazine's Usual Gang of Idiots!
In celebration of D&D's brand new book about the most thrilling sides of hell, Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus, MAD Magazine planned a serendipitous piece to be published at nearly the exact same time, one that takes a look at the lamest side of hell.
MAD Issue #10 will be on sale in comic book stores October 8th and to subscribers a little sooner, but D&D Beyond is thrilled to offer you a sneak peek at this two-page spread entitled "The Dopiest Demons in Dungeons & Dragons!"
These demons are, of course, not actually in Dungeons & Dragons, because MAD Magazine is not the most reliable of news sources. Instead, demons simply would be the dopiest if some player were foolish enough to will them into existence.
This piece is drawn by MAD stalwart who has been one of MAD's "Usual Gang of Idiots" for over 20 years, Hermann Mejia. The author of "The Dopiest Demons" may sound eerily familiar should you zoom in. Yes, okay, it is me, the person who put together this sneak peek!
Scroll down to see some detailed images of the piece, as well as a preview of the cover of this upcoming Halloween Issue! The Pennywise-esque cover art is by Jason Edmiston, who also drew the cover of MAD's recently rebooted Issue #1.
Dan Telfer is the Dungeons Humorist aka Comedy Archmage for D&D Beyond (a fun way they are letting him say "writer"), dungeon master for the Nerd Poker podcast, a stand-up comedian, a TV writer who also helped win some Emmys over at Comedy Central, and a former editor of MAD Magazine and The Onion. He can be found riding his bike around Los Angeles from gig to gig to gaming store, though the best way to find out what he's up to is to follow him on Twitter via @dantelfer.
Well....that exists.
Meh. Some people like that humor.
Agreed, I'm not a huge fan of this sort of content.
The ones who don't find the humor in this are probably the Kevin's at the table. :D
I take it the goldfish is a reference to Xanathar's pet goldfish?
And Abe Sapien, the fish-man from the Hellboy series.
In the hellboy series there's a a fish man named Abe Sapien

Time to subscribe to MAD.
I assume there should be an "a" between "by" and "MAD".
Come on, Kevins.
Not gonna lie you could use Heckfella in a really messed up horror campaign. He's a tiefling warlock of Asmodeus the party finds in a dungeon of the Abyss, he can't hurt the demons and they cant kill him but they can torture him when they get bored. Rolled really low stats hence how he hasn't escaped yet (his only decent stat is charisma).
Love it.
I’m going to force myself to subscribe to MAD
This is strange in a kinda nice way. Or I am just really messed up.
Well, if this is humor, I can't imagine how anyone buys this magazine. It was kind of funny in the 70's and 80's, but this is worse than family guy's "humor."
Does anyone have any bleach.
Well it used to be good but now it’s all dirty jokes and Donald Trump.
I think "dopey" is an accurate adjective.
I really expected something about the Chasme Demon here.
I agree
