Halfling Species Details
Cherished and guided by gods who value life, home, and hearth, halflings gravitate toward bucolic havens where family and community help shape their lives. That said, many halflings possess a brave and adventurous spirit that leads them on journeys of discovery, affording them the chance to explore a bigger world and make new friends along the way. Their size—similar to that of a human child—helps them pass through crowds unnoticed and slip through tight spaces.
Anyone who has spent time around halflings, particularly halfling adventurers, has likely witnessed the storied “luck of the halflings” in action. When a halfling is in mortal danger, an unseen force seems to intervene on the halfling’s behalf. Many halflings believe in the power of luck, and they attribute their unusual gift to one or more of their benevolent gods, including Yondalla, Brandobaris, and Charmalaine. The same gift might contribute to their robust life spans (about 150 years).
Halfling communities come in all varieties. For every sequestered shire tucked away in an unspoiled part of the world, there’s a crime syndicate like the Boromar Clan in the Eberron setting or a territorial mob of halflings like those in the Dark Sun setting.
Halflings who prefer to live underground are sometimes called strongheart halflings or stouts. Nomadic halflings, as well as those who live among humans and other tall folk, are sometimes called lightfoot halflings or tallfellows.

what is the matured age of a hobbit
Hey is the Luck trait functionally the same between the 2014 and 2024 rules ? The wording is a bit different.
The only difference is the use of the term "d20 Test", which is a new shorthand way of saying "attack roll, ability check, or saving throw". The meaning hasn't changed at all.
I lokey miss how subraces worked in 5e tho.
What if a halfling rolls back to back nat 1s would they go with the 1 or would it be a reroll
I mean if you think about it, it's the same idea of someone of Japanese decent doesn't automatically know the language, and if they're born in an English speaking country they might never learn it. Maybe a halfling is born in a community that primarily speaks Draconic so they just never learn halfling.
You have to use the second roll, regardless of what it is, even if it's another 1. It says it right there in the description:
When you roll a 1 on the d20 of a D20 Test, you can reroll the die, and you must use the new roll.
Thank you
No problem!
Naturally Stealthy I think reads more like halflings have a circumstantial advantage and don't have to try too hard to hide when they can stand behind someone larger than them to give them opportunities to conceal themselves. This doesn't require training to do. Proficiency implies training so I think it makes sense that (I think?) none of the 2024 PHB species have natural proficiencies and it is all tied to Background.
A little taller
A nomadic halfling left me as an infant with giants after a failed bet. I was raised as their spy in the tall folks areas to help with trading and to avoid overlap. As I became older and journeyed out and got captured after my cohort said I couldn't outrun a changing. My surrogate auntie paid to have me released and I am halfway though paying off my debt to her.
really wish these race descriptions mentioned things like sample names, hair/eye colours, etc
from the players handbook: "a halfling has a given name, a family name, and possibly a nickname. family names are often nicknames that stuck so tenaciously they have been passed down through the generations."
and here's some of the book's suggestions for halfling names :)
male: alton, cade, eldon, finnan, garret, lyle, merric, osborn, perrin, reed, wellby
female: andry, bree, callie, euphemia, jillian, lavinia, merla, portia, seraphina, vani
family names: brushgather, greenbottle, high-hill, hilltopple, tealeaf, tosscobble, underbough
and just to go all the way and save ppl time, halflings stand at around 3 ft tall and usually weigh around 40-45 lbs. their skin colors' range in a wide variety, while their hair and eyes are usually some shade of brown. (with the added details of halfling men having long sideburns but facial hair is rare among them)
cheers from a beginner player who just started a campaign as a lightfoot rogue halfling and happy playing!
Cool
My question exactly! Gnomes are taller than them now, so like..????
It says outside of this tab that they possess a brave and adventurous spirit that lead them on adventures but then in the article it says that they love the comforts of home and comfort??? (Ik it says nevertheless but still it just doesn’t make sense)
