Taking a deep breath, you exhale destructive energy. The type of dragon the scale used as a material component came from determines the size, shape, and effect of the exhalation, as described below.
Amethyst Dragon Scale. You create a shining bead of gravitational force in your mouth, then releases the energy in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 14d8 force damage, and its speed becomes 0 until the start of your next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage, and its speed isn’t reduced.
Black Dragon Scale. You exhale acid in a 90-foot line that is 10 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 15d8 acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Blue Dragon Scale. You exhale lightning in a 120-foot line that is 10 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 16d10 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Brass Dragon Scale. You exhale sleep gas in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or fall unconscious for 10 minutes. This effect ends for a creature if the creature takes damage or someone uses an action to wake it.
Bronze Dragon Scale. You exhale repulsive force in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is pushed 60 feet away from you.
Copper Dragon Scale. You exhale garlic-scented gas in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature can't use reactions, its speed is halved, and it can't make more than one attack on its turn. In addition, the creature can use either an action or a bonus action on its turn, but not both. These effects last for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself with a successful save.
Crystal Dragon Scale. You exhale a burst of brilliant radiance in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Constitution saving throw, taking 11d8 radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. You then gain 25 temporary hit points by absorbing a portion of the radiant energy.
Deep Dragon Scale. You exhale a cloud of spores in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 9d10 psychic damage, and it is frightened of you for 1 minute. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage with no additional effects. A frightened creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Emerald Dragon Scale. You exhale a wave of psychic dissonance in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make an Intelligence saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 16d6 psychic damage, and until the end of its next turn, when the creature makes an attack roll or an ability check, it must roll a d8 and reduce the total by the number rolled. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage with no additional effects.
Gold Dragon Scale. You exhale enervating gas in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a Strength saving throw or have disadvantage on Strength-based attack rolls, Strength checks, and Strength saving throws for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Green Dragon Scale. You exhale poisonous gas in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Constitution saving throw, taking 22d6 poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Moonstone Dragon Scale. You exhale a beam of moonlight in a 120-foot line that is 10 feet wide. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 11d10 radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Red Dragon Scale. You exhale fire in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 26d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Sapphire Dragon Scale. You exhale a pulse of high-pitched, nearly inaudible sound in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 10d10 thunder damage and is incapacitated until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn’t incapacitated.
Silver Dragon Scale. You exhale paralyzing gas in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Topaz Dragon Scale. You exhale yellowish necrotic energy in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 14d6 necrotic damage and is weakened until the end of its next turn. A weakened creature has disadvantage on Strength-based ability checks and Strength saving throws, and the creature’s weapon attacks that rely on Strength deal half damage. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn’t weakened.
White Dragon Scale. You exhale an icy blast in a 90-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Constitution saving throw, taking 16d8 cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 9th level, the duration is concentration, up to 1 minute. Until the spell ends, you can use a bonus action on each of your turns to attempt to recharge the spell's exhalation by rolling a d6. On a roll of 5 or 6, you can use an action to repeat the exhalation.
