You create an invisible, magical eye within range that hovers in the air for the duration.
You mentally receive visual information from the eye, which has normal vision and darkvision out to 30 feet. The eye can look in every direction.
As an action, you can move the eye up to 30 feet in any direction. There is no limit to how far away from you the eye can move, but it can't enter another plane of existence. A solid barrier blocks the eye's movement, but the eye can pass through an opening as small as 1 inch in diameter.

Can you see with both the arcane eye and your own sight at the same time?
You don't see through the eye, it gives you mental images. One can consider it a magical object that is also invisible as it states it is an eye. I would also-assume...that it can be "detected" by normal means with a perception check with disadvantage. If it is distructable it does not declare this except calling it an eye. If an eye can be considered an object would be a question i would like answered as this means it would fallow all rules that are object related, outside the spells description.
Creatures automatically fail perception checks that rely on sight if the target is invisible. Because the spell doesn't mention that the eye makes sounds or disturbs its surroundings while moving, I would argue that the eye is impossible to notice or locate if you can't already see invisibility.
Spells that create destructible objects always either list these statistics, or reference a specific item. The spell doesn't give hit points or an AC to the eye, and an "arcane eye" is not an item. The spell doesn't say the eye is a crystal focus, or a glass marble. The eye is, therefore, not an object that can be destroyed by mundane means.
The word "intangible" could be included in the spell's language to make these points more obvious.
Can it move through water?
thats exactly what the original person said
Using Detect Magic would allow the caster to sense the location of the eye.
Detect Magic spell is in two parts;
The first part allows the caster to sense magic through walls, doors, etc. Given this, it is evident that the caster will not see the source of the magic through the door but can still sense its presence. Senses are more than vision. Possibly the caster hears a humming noise or something similar.
The second part allows the caster to determine the aura around any visible creature or object. Hence the caster would not be able to determine divination as the aura around the arcane eye.
This means Detect Magic will allow the caster to locate the eye but not determine the eye's aura.
Given this, it is feasible the arcane eye could be found using detect magic, then captured in a cardboard box or similar container.
Also, consider the eye can only see 30 feet. This has severe implications for the eye's ability to navigate.
Have you ever tried navigating in heavy fog? Now you understand the limitations of the Arcane eye.
Should the eye fly more than 30 feet into the sky then it would loose it frame of reference and become hopelessly lost. IMO the spell ends.
The same goes for long-distance travel. The eye will need to navigate using landmarks within 30 feet of its current location. This means it can navigate a castle or follow a road, which offers a frame of reference. But the eye would quickly become lost crossing a wheat field or floating across a sea.
So I suggest
Could the Arcane Eye be sent through a portal?
Eg. exploring undermountain and find out what is on the other side of a portal (which is hopefully on the same plane of existance).
Can you cast spells that target what you can see through the eye, even if the spellcaster is in another room/on a different floor (basically lots of obstructions in between)? Even if the range is within distance? Would it depend on the spell? How do you know which spells need a clear path to travel from the spellcaster? The spell, as written, doesn't mention the ability to cast through the eye like Find Familiar's spell does (you can cast touch spells through your familiar)...and there's other abilities that allow for something like this, like the Scribe Wizard with Manifest Mind. So would allowing this take away from those abilities?
Yes. Arcane eye is invisible, indestructible, and not limited to a range from the caster. If you allow casting spells from it someone can kill anything without even being in the same location. Both find familiar and manifest mind are clearly visible and either limited to a short distance from the caster or very fragile.
It has “normal vision” and “Darkvision out to 30 ft”. I read this as they can see exactly what our eyes would see , distance, landscapes, mountains in the distance, etc.just like we can. But the 30 Ft limit is only in darkness. If I’m reading the spell correctly.
Thank **** this isn't ritual based.
I'd honestly homebrew it requires an actual eye of a creature to make it a little more costly.
I plan on having my ranger swarmkeeper's arcane eye take the form of a wasp.
Warlock: *Laughs in Visions of Distant Realms
Good luck
I think this spell should have the scrying tag
This should only last a minute, or 10 minutes max.
Can you use another spell slot to maintain the spell for longer than an hour? (Maintaining Concentration of course)
If so, could a Warlock with Visions of Distant Realm’s maintain the spell indefinitely as long as they maintain concentration? Would there be costs for maintaining concentration that long? (Such as small amounts of psychic damage under certain conditions, or exhaustion) You would have to have some effect or ability that allows you to not sleep, and you would need a source of food or water (or not require food).
If you're referring to recastings, that's not quite how this works. Casting the spell again does not simply extend the duration, it creates an entirely new instance. The new eye will appear within 30 feet of you, no matter how far it was when the last spell ended.
It is true, however, that a warlock with Visions of Distant Realms can continually recast this as many times as they desire, without needing to expend any spell slots.
Detect Magic specifies you can only see auras around *visible* objects, since the eye is not visible, detect magic would not locate it
