I may just have to go this way. I love the idea of the players hearing the stomp stomp stomp and seeing this gnome just bobbing toward them grinning. Heh!
FYI, after my research, the consensus is that creatures aren't "things" when they're carried. They are 'riders'... Makes sense.
I always got annoyed when Tiberius cast this spell without thinking about the duration. It only lasts one minute so it's almost useless outside of combat or the occasional timed event.
I don't remember; did he cast this or regular invisibility? It could've also been a house rule to allow him to cast a single-target standard invisibility with this still at 4th level.
Edit: according to the wiki, he also had regular invisibility. Why would you waste a 4th level spell slot out of combat when you could accomplish the same thing with an hour duration with a 2nd level slot?
when you attack you stay invisible
Greater Invisibility + Steel Wind Strike:
Greater Invisibility and then slap 5 enemies with Steel Wind Strike, making all those attack rolls with advantage, and then walk away without triggering opportunity attacks because you can't be seen
This spell is missing the "Gloom Stalker" tag. Ranger Archetype Gloom Stalker gets access to this spell at lvl13 per the Gloom Stalker Spells table.
assuming you're in range of an enemy while invisible and you move out of range without disengaging - would you still trigger attacks of opportunity on yourself?
Opportunity Attacks can only be made against creatures you can see.
Oh, how I wish this was on the Warlock base spell list....
That's why homebrew exists.
Actually though, adding a spell to a list it's not normally on is one of the easiest ways to use the builder on here. This forum covers it well: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/60437-modifying-official-spells-for-your-private
.
Does this spell overcome See Invisibility? (I can understand an enemy with Blindsight or True Sight beating this.)
No.
if i were to throw (pocket)sand at an invisible creature, would the creature be "wearing" the sand? or would the sand make an outline of the creature?
Even if you have blindsight, see invisibility, or truesight, you still will have disadvantage of attack rolls against invisible targets. Invisibility is a condition that always gives the user advantage and others disadvantage. Having the ability to "sense" them doesn't negate the condition. This is intended.
Things like See Invisibility and Truesight give you the ability to see things that are invisible, as if they were visible. Therefore, to you, they aren't invisible, and don't gain any of those benefits against you.
I would totally run this the same way you do. However it IS RAW and RAI to always have disadvantage attacking invisible creatures and the invisible creature will have advantage. The ability to "sense" the creature doesn't seem to matter. This is confirmed on the Dungeons and Dragons YouTube channel sage advice video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n42dboiQeOY at like 20:15
Quote from J.C. "That bullet does not explicitly rely on others being incapable of seeing the invisible person"
I personally HATE this ruling, it is totally illogical. But it is how the game was written and I hate it.
What is so great about Greater Invisibility?!?
It lasts 59 minutes less than the 2nd level invisibility spell! You cannot upcast it?
I think they broke one of my favorite 3.5e spells.
As I have said before:
In D&D Rule Number 1 is The DM makes the rules.
What's so great about it is that the target creature(s) can remain invisible while casting spells and making attacks.
Most obviously, this is invisibility for combat, because your target can stay invisible not only on the approach to combat but throughout combat. This is valuable for several reasons:
This is also invisibility for the most challenging minute of a stealth operation, when the target needs to be able to cast other spells like minor illusion for a distraction, make a quick round of devastating attacks against a sentry or an object, or Disarm a creature holding an object you need to abscond with.
