You choose one object that you must touch throughout the casting of the spell. If it is a magic item or some other magic-imbued object, you learn its properties and how to use them, whether it requires attunement to use, and how many charges it has, if any. You learn whether any spells are affecting the item and what they are. If the item was created by a spell, you learn which spell created it.
If you instead touch a creature throughout the casting, you learn what spells, if any, are currently affecting it.
* - (a pearl worth at least 100 gp and an owl feather)
#1 artificer spell
Boy, do I ever hate this spell. So, so much.
As a divine soul sorcerer with the mage initiate feat of wizard would i be able to learn new spells for identifying the items ie spiritual weapon since the spell "you learn its properties and how to use them, If the item was created by a spell, you learn which spell created it" since learning everything about the spell would that go into my know spells. And if a creature was put to sleep by the spell would learn the spell by identifying them? "you learn what spells, if any, are currently affecting it."
Does this have to be a pearl or can it be any jem stone worth 100gp?
RAW - it needs to be a pearl. However I have played in a campaign where the GM would sometimes adjust the item. Keep in mind that the pearl is not consumed so you only need to buy it once. If you have the 100 gp or equivalent - why not "go to town" and buy a pearl?
in a similar vein, if you are a non-wizard spellcaster, can you learn spells from your class by using this spell on a wizard's spellbook, depending on what is inside?
I mean it detects spells affecting the target… so spells like geas, contagion, bestow curse… maybe not the common use, but it has come up in games I’ve played… and for wizards it just needs to be in their spellbook. For bards it’s a bit of a tougher choice, but for wizards it is almost an auto-include.
I believe so.
Is the Pearl consumed after casting this spell? 100 GP.
No, the pearl is not consumed.

No it isn't 🛑
I think the identify spell should be able to reveal most curses, maybe not always when cast at lv1 but higher levels for sure. That's the whole point of the spell, that's why the players take it, I'm not gonna fudge the spell just because the spell that reveals knowledge is revealing knowledge lol
Does this reveal curses on an item or person?
This spell doesn't generally reveal curses on items unless the item or curse specifically says that it does. This is stated in the section on cursed magic items in the Dungeon Master's Guide.
As for a person, I think if the curse were caused by a spell (such as the aptly named bestow curse) then it would, since it says "if you instead touch a creature throughout the casting, you learn what spells, if any, are currently affecting it". If it were caused by something other than a spell, then no.
Identify would tell you how many charges it has, how many each power uses, how many it gets back at dawn, and if its possible the item breaks if you roll a 1 (like a staff of defense). You dont need Identify for a ring of jumping but you do for a lot of rods staves wands robes etc. more complicated items.
Using the staff of defense example, without identify youd know it can cast two spells. then you attune to it. but the charge cost of each spell, the current charges, *and the fact it might break*, wouldnt be known to you.
