A 10-foot-radius immobile dome of force springs into existence around and above you and remains stationary for the duration. The spell ends if you leave its area.
Nine creatures of Medium size or smaller can fit inside the dome with you. The spell fails if its area includes a larger creature or more than nine creatures. Creatures and objects within the dome when you cast this spell can move through it freely. All other creatures and objects are barred from passing through it. Spells and other magical effects can't extend through the dome or be cast through it. The atmosphere inside the space is comfortable and dry, regardless of the weather outside.
Until the spell ends, you can command the interior to become dimly lit or dark. The dome is opaque from the outside, of any color you choose, but it is transparent from the inside.

I understand that this is meant to be a spell that lets you have a long rest anywhere with no ability to be interrupted.
In response to Nix:
1. The party would probably have someone standing guard as a matter of course, so they'd just know to get out of the hut before that happens.
2. That is genuinely hilarious, but who knows if that'd actually stick?
3. Outside elemental forces like smoke, fire, and heat, wouldn't enter the dome. It very specifically states that the inside of the dome is constantly comfortable and dry. It's a given that oxygen can always enter though, similar to how being invisible doesn't mean you still need to have your eyeballs visible to catch light, and is an acceptable break.
4. I'd probably rule that it has a limited supply of oxygen inside, but eventually they'd suffocate.
5. Five is solved in the same manner as number one above: Ain't no party gonna normally sit around and watch that happen. Also, if it's a sphere with a floor bisecting it, they wouldn't be able to dig all the floor out.
6. Situational, but fun.
7. I feel like that could happen with or without the dome, and the total freedom to leave at any time means that after the first rock gets stacked, many would just get the **** out.
What is with all these war gamers getting upset that the player can get a safe rest? Is it so hard to be creative enough to find other ways to challenge your players besides forcing a stale old ambush while they sleep?
The DMG provides a in game mechanic to allows another in game mechanic to rest... You know, that abilities the need to play your war game?
The players are sacrificing limited spell choices to insure the group is able to perform and survive. Like not picking things like counter spell, dispell magic, and fireball. Be happy they chose the house for a nap instead the magical bomb and the "nope" spell that will wreak your BBEG.
Actually, it is much less complicated for the party, as I can't see anything to prevent my fighter from unleashing a rain of spears/bolts/arrows on anyone approaching the hut, being invulnerable to the attacks from the outside. Even hitting the adjacent enemy in melee. Weapons in his arsenal can go outside and inside with no problems. He will even have advantage from attacking without being seen. Thus all deadly trap plans will not work.
wouldn't that make the atmosphere inside less comfortable?))
I agree with you.
Especially with low level characters having a limited number of spell which are mostly good for 1 battle; they need a place to rest.
Too many "DMs" posting on here are just looking for ways to kill their party off, I'm surprised there are folks left that want to play with you.
And I'm sure no one inside will suffocate within the 8 hrs otherwise it's a bad spell to begin with. (Not to say the Dwarfs beer farts would be welcome.)
Just remember, all objects in the dome when summoned can pass freely through the wall in BOTH directions.
The issues raised regarding this, as with so many other issues, come from the viewpoint that only PCs can use it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving NPC opponents this spell and using the PC's actions (and opinions) inform how to handle its use, as DM, for everyone.
While everyone is arguing about the use of this spell in combat I want to point out for those doing particularly brutal campaigns that require tons of traveling or traveling in severe conditions like heat or cold this spell is INSANELY useful to make a safe place to sleep at night for a long rest and adds the benefit of no one being able to attack you.
A portable hut with magical protections was so amazing to have when my DM home brewed the fact that we had a 7 day travel through a forest that things would attack us at night and I could just lay down a house whenever needed. DM thought he had us by making one or more of us not be able to get a full long rest each night to stand guard or making us travel in the night making it more likely we get lost or surprise attacked slowing us down but than with this spell paired with Create Food and Water from our Cleric we literally never had to worry about where we were going or how long it would take us and we had food, water and a safe place to sleep whenever needed.
Any idea how this would work with mani Mind? Could I cast awaken Mind and send it to scout while I cast tiny hut and view through Awakend Mind, or would casting this sever my connection to awakened mind?
If I have Blessing of the Trickster up and THEN cast Tiny Hut, can I use my duplicate to cast spells? The text of Blessing says "Cast spells as the illusion" not through.
i didn't know trickster got this spell, i'd rule yes
I go with 10 total, as a 10' radius circle also contains 10 5' squares (or close enough for adventuring work). Stash gear in the "corners", and get that long rest!
Dispel Magic should work on the dome.
As a dm I’d rule that an appropriate check could get through it. Like a str vs players dc. Maybe make the str check be at disadvantage.
Fun uses for this spell
-Create a camouflage observation point. "crossing the flat snowfield you slightly see a white mound on the horizon "
- A place to park your wagon/equipment while the party does an 8-hour dungeon. Yes, the Caster needs to stay there but, that is what sidekicks are for.
-Blocking doors and hallways. the spell says nothing about needing space to cast, just it "springs into existence around and above you" "YOU SHALL NOT PASS.. but I can't leave either"
- It was also mentioned that it makes a great attack position, and attacking with an advantage due to it is opaque while you can have a perfect site. Now imagine this tactic being used by a castle for siege warfare by having ballistics mounts under protective cover. ( and the players have to storm this castle.)
One way or the other... does sound penetrate the tiny hut?
Questions:
My rhetorical question:
The Creation spell has a 5 foot cube area of effect. Cubes, like hemispheres, have floors. So does a glass dome created by casting Creation have a floor?
Tiny Hut has a 10 foot hemisphere area of effect. I'd rule that this defines the area that is comfortable, dry, and dimly lit or dark. The hemisphere also contains a 10-foot dome (meaning curved roof) of force around and above you (not below) but no floor. If you dig a hole below the dome the dryness effect would not extend into the hole.
No. A lot of the original spells took the name of the (Magic-user) Wizard who created them. Leomund, was the one who created the spell. ;)
