Lightning
Lightning springs from you to a creature that you try to touch. Make a melee spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 Lightning damage, and it can’t make Opportunity Attacks until the start of its next turn.
Cantrip Upgrade. The damage increases by 1d8 when you reach levels 5 (2d8), 11 (3d8), and 17 (4d8).
They nerfed this spell. There is no longer an advantage against opponents wearing metal armor, and the targets inability to take reactions have been replaced with the inability to make opportunity attacks. while this is still usefull, and I can understand why the removed the reaction cancelation, I still wish they had advantage against armored opponents.
I'm gonna be honest that "advantage against opponents with metal armor" was really weird and specific. No other lightning spells had it and it wasn't always useful unless you're fighting a lot of armored enemies. I just wish they gave this spell something interesting to make it more worthwhile, because even before the nerfs, what wizard or sorcerer was gonna pick a melee cantrip that puts them at the front line of danger and does less damage with worse bonus effects than their other ranged cantrips. This is especially the case now that acid splash and poison spray are decent cantrips too now.
