Describe or name an object that is familiar to you. You sense the direction to the object’s location if that object is within 1,000 feet of you. If the object is in motion, you know the direction of its movement.
The spell can locate a specific object known to you if you have seen it up close—within 30 feet—at least once. Alternatively, the spell can locate the nearest object of a particular kind, such as a certain kind of apparel, jewelry, furniture, tool, or weapon.
This spell can’t locate an object if any thickness of lead blocks a direct path between you and the object.
* - (a forked twig)

Posted Feb 6, 2025One of my players used this to find a magical spear. He wasn't familiar with the magical spear in and of itself, but he was familiar with generic spears. I allowed it, but feel free to correct me.

Posted Feb 11, 2025How I would rule that is: if you're not familiar with the specific spear in question, you can use the "alternative" mode where you're locating the nearest object of a particular kind, and it will locate the nearest spear for you. If the magic spear is the nearest spear, then that's what the spell points to. But if some other random spear is closer, that's what you get instead.

Posted Apr 20, 2025If you could upcast and expand the range, that would be really cool.

Posted Aug 27, 2025Okay need some help here. I pulled a card from the "Deck of Daddy things" it was talons; ( Every Magic item in your possession turns to dust. If you have an artifact, whatever the hell that is, it vanishes but isn't destroyed. As if that makes a difference.) Could I use this spell to find the artifact i once had?

Posted Sep 5, 2025Sure, if it happens to reappear within 1000 feet.

Posted Sep 8, 2025As VarisL1adon pointed out, this will only work if the artifact is within 1000 feet of you, so you'd have to have at least a vague idea of where it had reappeared.
Legend Lore, though more expensive, might be more helpful in tracking down an artifact if you have no idea where it is.
