Deafened (...)
You utter a word imbued with power from the Upper Planes. Each creature of your choice in range makes a Charisma saving throw. On a failed save, a target that has 50 Hit Points or fewer suffers an effect based on its current Hit Points, as shown in the Divine Word Effects table. Regardless of its Hit Points, a Celestial, an Elemental, a Fey, or a Fiend target that fails its save is forced back to its plane of origin (if it isn’t there already) and can’t return to the current plane for 24 hours by any means short of a Wish spell.
| Hit Points | Effect |
|---|---|
| 0–20 | The target dies. |
| 21–30 | The target has the Blinded, Deafened, and Stunned conditions for 1 hour. |
| 31–40 | The target has the Blinded and Deafened conditions for 10 minutes. |
| 41–50 | The target has the Deafened condition for 1 minute. |

Posted Sep 14, 2024Missed opportunity to do literally anything to creatures above 50 hit points. I say this because power word kill got to have a cool effect even if the target is above 100 hit points, but this was just turned into a table but otherwise is exactly the same.

Posted Oct 6, 2024It does do something above 50 HP- it's a mass save or suck banishment effect. No need to hold concentration, they blow the save and regardless of HP they're kicked and essentially same as insta-killed for the purposes of a fight.

Posted Jan 13, 2025Pretty nice banishment upgrade (easier to pull off in combat due to no longer needing to concentrate).

Posted Feb 3, 2025This spell is a war crime in my campaigns because it can just insta kill an entire army

Posted Jul 11, 2025This makes more sense, at a level this high you might be fighting tons of planar beings at once and this could banish them all immediately with a saving throw that may be difficult to resist.

Posted Sep 15, 2025Since you can cast this as a bonus action, you can pair this with another big AOE spell to deal a burst of damage in one round to lots of enemies (potentially killing lots of small enemies and debuffing or banishing others). Otherwise, I think the main draw of this spell is it is essentially a more expensive AOE version of banishment.
