Monk
Base Class: Monk

Way of Thunder Monks are agile fighters that hit with the force of thunder. Training at monasteries of thunder gods, they become avatars of these gods and imbue their fists with the power of the storm, this connection being represented by their storm cloud companion. Their normally docile personality differs greatly from their thunderous and explosive attacks.

Talk with your DM about what god you are the avatar of. How did you become the avatar? What is your relationship to this god? Can you talk to them normally or can you only meet occasionally? Does your character enjoy their role as the avatar of a god? Also, in regards to your storm cloud companion, what is your storm cloud's name? How did you first meet it?

Thunder Strike

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your strikes are imbued with the power of thunder. All your attacks do thunder damage equal to your level + proficiency bonus.

Storm Cloud Companion

From 3rd level, you have a storm cloud companion that is the manifestation of your relationship with your god.

The companion has blindsight of 10ft, can speak the same languages as you and can give you the help action. It cannot be spoken to telepathically as it does not have a brain. It is immune to all effects, all damage except radiant and has hit points equal to your level in monk and an armour class of 10.

If the cloud is destroyed you can resummon it over a short rest or use 3 ki points to resummon it instantly.

The cloud is incorporeal to all who touch it except you and to you it is warm and soft to the touch so you can hug the cloud.

Lightening Chain

At 6th level, the energy from your attacks arcs off the enemy you hit and onto those nearby. When you hit a creature with an flurry of blows attack, you can cause lightning to arc from them to a nearby creature of your choice. The target of this feature must be within 15ft of the first creature you hit, and they take thunder damage equal to half your normal thunder damage.

From 11th level the energy can arc from that enemy to another enemy, still doing equal to half your normal thunder damage, or it can do full thunder damage to the first enemy it arcs to.

Avatar of the Storm

Beginning at 11th level, you can use 3 ki points enter an avatar state that lasts one minute. When you enter this state your eyes turn white and lightening begins to arc off of you. All of your attacks can chain from the enemy you hit and the thunder damage you do is tripled on a critical hit.

In addition, in the state you gain immunity to thunder damage and out of the state you have resistance.

Overload

At 17th level, you are a dangerous enemy to take down. When you are reduced to 0 Hit Points, but not outright killed, you can use your reaction to release thunder from your body. All hostile creatures within 30ft of you must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes thunder damage equal to your normal thunder damage, or half as much on a success. If you do not have a reaction you can use 3 ki points to activate this ability.

If you are in your avatar state when taken down this thunder damage is doubled and if any enemies roll a 1 on their saving throw they are paralyzed. They can try roll a constitution saving throw to save from this, against your ki save, at the end of their turn every round. If not saved from, this ability lasts a minute.

Once you use this ability, you cannot use it again until you have completed a short rest.

Improved Avatar State

From 17th level, while in your Avatar of the Storm state you gain a flying speed of 120ft and ride around on a storm cloud which can talk. You can also use 6 ki points instead of 3 to activate this state and make it last for 10 minutes rather than 1.
