Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

This class of wizards receives a reduced number of spell slots in exchange for learning more cantrips. When you take this arcane tradition at level 3, use the table below to figure out the number of cantrips known and spell slots you have at a given level.

Reduced Spell Slots

When you take this arcane tradition at level 2, you purposefully change the way you learn magic, cutting off your access to higher level magic in exchange for being able to cast more cantrips. Follow the table in the subclass description to know how many cantrips you know and how many spell slots you have available at a given level.

Small Magic Study

When you come across a spell scroll that contains a cantrip or observe another caster utilizing a cantrip, you may attempt to copy that cantrip into your spell book. An attempt at copying a cantrip into your spell book takes 1 hour and costs 25 gp in materials and inks. At the end of the attempt, make an Intelligence (Arcana) check. The DC for this check is 23 minus your ability score in the cantrip's original spellcasting ability. If a cantrip's spellcasting ability can vary, then use the spellcasting ability from the source of the cantrip (example: a wizard with 16 intelligence, 9 wisdom and 11 charisma spends time studying a willing bard to copy the spell vicious mockery, so the DC for copying the cantrip is 23 minus the 11 in the wizard's charisma, which equals 12. Later, that same wizard is coping the spell guidance from a druid spell scroll. This cantrip can either be cast by a cleric, druid or artificer, so the cantrip's spellcasting ability could be intelligence or wisdom. Since this is a druid spell scroll, we utilize the druid's spellcasting ability of wisdom in the DC check calculation, meaning the DC for copying this cantrip in this manner is 23 minus the 9 in the wizard's wisdom, which equals 14.) On a failed check, you are unable to copy the spell. On a successful check, the spell is copied into your spell book. After the check has been made, the time and money spent are gone, regardless of the result. You may give yourself advantage on the check by spending 4 hours studying the spell, or by repeating the check consecutively.

Once you have successfully copied a cantrip into your spell book, you may prepare the number of copied cantrips equal to your intelligence modifier. These cantrips do not count against the number of prepared leveled spells. When casting cantrips prepared in this manner, treat them as wizard cantrips.

Empowered Cantrips

Starting at 6th level, your cantrips become more fearsome than ever. When you cast a cantrip that increases in power the higher level you are, the cantrip acts as if you are at the next power scale. If you reach the final increase for a cantrip, increase the power to what would be the next step in the progression. (Example: if you have the spell chill touch, then the damage scales as follows: 3d8 at 6th level, 4d8 at 11th level, and 5d8 at 17th level.)

Insistent Cantrips

Beginning at 10th level, you may impose disadvantage on any creature making a saving throw against one of your cantrips. In addition, any spell attack rolls you make using a cantrip automatically gain advantage.

Dual Cantrips

Starting at 14th level, when you cast a cantrip as an action, bonus action or reaction, you may cast a different cantrip at the same time so long as the second cantrip has the same casting time as the first cantrip. You may only do this once per turn, and you may only do this the number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.
