Monk
Base Class: Monk

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can manipulate your ki to move outside the boundaries of your body, attacking with barely visible waves of force, which appear as ripples in the air, that can allow you to fight at a range and manipulate the positions of your enemies. All abilities of this monastic tradition that involve ki deal force damage. (Additionally, if the DM allows it, one could add flavor to the abilities by describing how it dents the enemy’s armor where they’ve been attacked by this pure force.)

3rd Level: Force of Push and Pull

  • At 3rd level, you begin to understand the basics of ki emission. By expending 1 ki point, you can add Reach to your attacks (10ft). If you attack an opponent with this effect, you can spend another 1 ki point to force them to make a strength saving throw, as if they were being grappled. On a failed save, the target will take extra damage equal to your martial arts die, and at your choice, the target will either be knocked prone, or pulled toward you, allowing for an extra unarmed attack as a bonus action. On a succeeded save, the target takes the damage but the push and pull does not sway them.

6th Level: Body and Soul

At 6th level, your martial arts are now enhanced by the force of your ki, boosting your martial arts die by an extra d2.
(ie. 6th through 10th level has a d8 to damage rather than a d6, 11th through 16th level has a d10 instead of a d8, and 17th through 20th level has a d12 instead of a d10.) This does affect the damage from Force of Push and Pull.

6th Level: Counterforce

Also at 6th level, you start thinking about more applications of your abilities. When an enemy misses an attack within 5 ft on you, you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack. If the enemy is using a reach weapon, you must expend 1 ki point to do this. By expending 1 ki point, you can add the effects of Force of Push and Pull to this opportunity attack, but you may only push for the grapple save.

11th Level: Natural Force

At 11th level, you have built up a significant pool of ki within yourself and can, to an extent, pull from it at will. All unarmed attacks now always have reach, and attacks will always deal force damage. This also applies to the reaction of Counterforce, removing the 1 ki point cost of countering a reach weapon’s attack. Force of Push and Pull’s 1 ki point cost now solely is used for the grapple save and the subsequent push or pull of a failed save.

17th Level: Force of Will

At 17th level, your mastery of ki emission allows you to properly control and not emit excess.
  • Force of Push and Pull’s extra effect is now free.
  • You can spend 3 ki points to hit the ground and create a shockwave of pure force, cracking the ground under you and attacking everyone and everything within 50 feet. By increasing the 3 ki points required to 4, you can decide targets instead of attacking indiscriminately.
