Base Class: Monk
The Way of the Tempest is a tradition for monks wishing to cultivate energy within instead of channeling it. A balance of containing the chaos of one of the elements and knowing when to unleash it for full effect. The path to this training usually occurs for those who have an affinity with storms or violent weather. It is also a common path of training for monastic storm giants who see this as a natural pathway to their heritage.
Body of Storm
When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you become imbued with the power of the storms' fury. Your body becomes more resistant to the effects of most storms granting you resistance to lightning and thunder damage if you don't already have them.
Flow of Wrath
At 3rd level, you feel the flow of the storm and its wrath upon those who would dare to strike at the storm. When a target within 5 feet of you misses you with an attack, you may use your reaction to make two Unarmed Strikes against them. Once you use this feature you may not use it again until you have taken a Short or Long rest.
Tempest Within
Starting at 6th level, you can harness the storm within you to different effects. Charging it as a warning to those who would do you harm, or to send a blast of thunderous energy out from you.
Toll of the Storm. You let out a taste of the tempest within you, causing an effect much like a lightning strike around you. Spending 2 ki points, each creature within 10 feet must make a Constitution saving throw versus your DC for Ki effects. Each creature that fails the saving throw takes your Martial Arts die in lightning damage and is blinded and deafened until the start of your next turn. Successful saves take half damage and are not blinded or defeaned.
Shocking Retribution. When you use a ki point to use Patient Defense, any enemy that hits you with an attack takes lightning damage equal to your Martial Arts die.
Rising Storm Stance
As a bonus action, spend 4 ki points. Enter the Rising Storm stance. For the next minute, each time you are hit by an attack, gain 1 charge. Whenever you hit with an unarmed strike attack during Rising Storm, you may unleash the storm (no action required). When you unleash, you expend all charges to deal that many Martial Arts dice in lightning damage on your attack. Any charges left once the stance ends vanish.
