Cleric
Base Class: Cleric

The Ainö Aaltônen are a specialized order of clerics in the homebrew world of Sauvogia.  They are based out of the Hvolstad Trade enclave, but as the name indicates more tend to come from the Lohjahalo culture than the Gvejik.  Individuals of all cultures and lands common in the area can be found among their ranks, though, and there are tales of Aaltônen defenders from MUCH farther away.  One strange creature who joined the order in the early days of its founding, resembling a dragon compressed into humanoid size and form, gave rise to legends that are still being told today ... and the order was founded not too many years after this admittedly still frontier continent was first colonized.  The creature disappeared as mysteriously as it had come, saying something about returning to the other side of the world; and these legends are only remembered among the clerics themselves, the glory of some mighty subsequent battles against the undead having eclipsed even the dragon-creature in the popular memory, but the priests remember.

Although undead are certainly the main threat in the Haunted Lands, and there are rumours of a strangely built vampire's castle that can sometimes be vaguely seen through a gateway of mist that fades away next moment, the place is close enough to the thin places in the northern wilderness where Feywild crossings tend to cluster that the Ainö Aaltônen have ahd to develop some more sorceropusly inclined skills to deal with wandering night hags and such; and the life of a wandering protector through wild lands has made more martial skills such as you would more commonly expect to find in a ranger or paladin's toolkit useful to these warrior-priests.

Holy protector

Like a paladin, the Aino Aaltonen dedicates themselves to a life of active battle against the forces of evil that haunt the roads of the Haunted Lands and threaten to cut off all contact between Aberstwyth and Ulvsnesshjolm, and the rest of the continent.  Hence, they learn to use martial weapons and armor, and shields

Eyes of the Grave

At 1st level, you gain the ability to occasionally sense the presence of the undead, whose existence is an insult to the natural cycle of life. As an action, you can open your awareness to magically detect undead. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any undead within 60 feet of you that isn’t behind total cover and that isn’t protected from divination magic. This sense doesn’t tell you anything about a creature’s capabilities or identity.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Domain Spells

You gain domain spells at the cleric levels listed in the Aino Aaltonen Spells table. See the Divine Domain class feature for how domain spells work.

Channel Divinity: Trouble the Restless Spirit

As they gain experience, the Aino Aaltonen's understainding of the strange and supernatural foes they face increases.  Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to Turn otherworldly creatures as well as undead; and at 5th level your understanding has grown so subtle that you can try to cause undead (but not otherwordly beings) to become temporarily subject to confusion.

As an action, you present your holy symbol, and one elemental, fey, or fiend of your choice that is within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw, provided that the creature can see or hear you. If the creature fails its saving throw, it is turned for 1 minute or until it takes any damage.

A turned creature must spend its turns trying to move as far away from you as it can, and it can’t willingly end its move in a space within 30 feet of you. It also can’t take reactions. For its action, it can only use the Dash action or try to escape from an effect that prevents it from moving. If there’s nowhere to move, the creature can use the Dodge action.

By 5th level, the Aino Aaltonen's understanding of the subtle interplay between life and death becomes so profound that they are able to temporarily manipulate the contradictory energies passing through whatever serves an undead instead of a mind.  This allows them to concentrate on a single undead, attempting to produce an effect in it which mimics the confusion spell in the living.  They must spend the same actions and concentration as if they were attempting to turn the undead, and sentient undead can attempt a contest of WIS against the Aino Aaltonen to avoid the effect.

As the Aino Aaltonen gains experience in the field, they learn to apply this effect more, well, effectively.  At 12th level, it becomes strong enough that if they succeed in this effect by 3 or more over the number they needed to cause [spell]confusion] in the initial target, they can cause it to be extended to additional undead within 20', up to a limit of one-quarter of their level, rounded up.  And at 15th level, their understanding of the various creatures they face has reached such a pitch that they can attempt to extend this effect to Fey creatures as well, although with disadvantage in the contest to impose it on intelligent ones.

At 6th level, if the Aino Aaltonen succeeds in troubling an undead by greater than 3 over the number they needed to succeed, they can attempt to extend the effect to other undead within 20', subject to a limit of one quarter of their level, rounded up

The Faerie Veil

By 13th level, the Aino Aaltonen's understanding of the Fey creatures who also trouble the Haunted Lands has deepened sufficiently to allow them to begin to weave themselves among the threads of faerie magic that surround such creatures.  They can mingle the strand of their own presence in among those comprising such a being that they are able to become temporarily invisible to them for a number of rounds equal to one-third of their level.

Hit the Trod

The greatest Aino Aaltonen are whispered to have secret knowledge of ancient faerie pacts, taboos, geasa, and laws which they are able to subtly invoke in a confrontation with a hostile Fey creature.  These things have a certain power over such creatures, and although the code is so complex that no mortal can know enough about the loopholes to actually enforce such a command, the Aino Aaltonen use them in an entirely different manner.  They have learned to weave a complex dance of mutually contradictory obligations in a Fey creature's mind in such a way that it causes confusion in them as if they had been undead subjected to a 5th level Aino Aaltonen's Trouble the Restless
